Are backhoe buckets unique to a particular model and brand or are some of them kind of universal and able to fit other machines of the same class or size? I have a JD 10 backhoe for my 5210 and I would like to get a 12" bucket for it. I suppose the JD dealer is always an option but would like to find something that is a little less expensive than going that route.

I suspect that there's some "crossover" in backhoe buckets between models and other makes. Like front-end loader buckets.

Pin-on buckets might be a bit harder to match up between different machines but the newer style Quick-tach buckets are likely easier.

The bucket and thumb for my JD 110 is from a JD 27 mini-excavator.

I believe that the Model 10 backhoe is manufacturered by Ameriequip for Deere. They build the Model 7 and the Model 8B backhoe for the smaller JD tractors for Deere also. It just might be that a 12" bucket for the 8B could pin up to your Model 10 hoe; something to look into. If so, there would be a bigger used market to choose from.

Best of luck.

I've been in the market for an 18" bucket for my JD 48 hoe for quite some time. Ameriequip won't sell to you or me and JD has made sure that all of the hoes that were made for them had just a little different measurement. I'm still in hopes of finding an after-market bucket so I don't have to pay JD's ridiculous prices.

In general, back hoe buckets are not universal.

Agreed.. Ameriequip won't sell you a new bucket. And JD wants a 2nd mortage for a new one!

Point is - the manufacturer makes a number of different models for Deere and therefore there is the possibility that some other model bucket might match up. As well, there's a fair number of used hoes and buckets gathering weeds along the back fence in some dealer's lot.

They show up routinely on Ebay, auction flyers. Or on Machinefinder.com, Tractorhouse.com, etc., etc.

Key is to know what particular pin-layout, dimensions, that you need. And dig around...

Sounds like a wise man will start looking for additional buckets before he needs them. Might save having to go to the dealer while in a hurry and gettin ripped.

I checked on buckets from Lackender and they only fit Lackender machines. Guess my best option is to measure up my bucket pin locations and look at every 12" bucket I can find till I find one that will fit. Another option might be finding a low priced used bucket, cut the ears off and reweld them or make new ones so it will mate up to my machine. Should not be very difficult to rework one to fit since we are not building a swiss watch. Good excuse to do some more welding.

Anyone have prices on new buckets ? I am looking for a 24" sand bucket for my Bradco hoe. I haven't found any used but I am considering fabing one up. Can't be that hard to copy the existing shape and have a metal shop roll the curve with 3/16th material. Cutting edge, teeth, and forming guessing around three hundred.

When I wanted a 18" bucket for my JD 7 I measured the center spread and width of the attachment ears and went shopping on the internet. It took about six months to find one but I bought a slightly used one on e-bay. I paid $ 275 for a practically new bucket advertized as a kubota excavator bucket. I do not know what or where it came from but it is one heavy duty bucket! It looks like it could be used on a mini excavator but it fits exactly on my dipper stick on my JD 7. So I guess the moral of the story is just measure and search diligently and you will find.:D
