Kubota B8200HST-D
All, I picked up a late model B8200HST-D that was used as an airplane tug, 15-30 mins at a shot. Over the last 25 years it only has 925 actual hours. The good news for me is that the PTO has never been used, so I'm assuming that the PTO system is like new.

I'll be using the PTO for stationary duty on a gearhead water well. The well will need about 8 hp @ 640 rpm (about 2200 engine rpm according to my estimate). I'll need to run it about 1500 hours this year, because of the severe drought we have here in California. This is my backup frost protection well, which I normally operate with a New Holland TN95 (but need that tractor for other reasons during the summer).

Here is my plan to make this little Kubota hold up:

-Install a relay/solenoid circuit to kill the motor if it overheats
-Change oil every 200 hours (every 10 days)
-Change oil filter every 400 hours
-Change tranny fluid/filter every 400 hours (every 20 days)
-Add 2 additional 5 gallon fuel tanks. I found some generator fuel tanks on ebay for about $50.

Anyone have additional "must do's"?

I would think about cooling issues, if you'll be using it in a hot environment- like a supplemental electric fan?? 2200rpm is fairly high speed for that engine- I think 2600 is max? You have plenty of PTO power, so maybe a speed increaser that would allow, say, 1700 rpm with 640 at the PTO? 1:1.3 or so. Just thinkin'.

I dunno...2200 is likely right in the wheel house for this purpose. These are bitty engines, not like a big Cat or John Deere engine. Stroke is only 2.75", so piston speed is pretty minimal, and cooling better at that rpm.

I wouldn't want to run it at less than 2000 rpm.

But you are right, cooling is the issue!
