I recently purchased a set of 2-link ladder chains for my B7610 from Tirechains.com. I ordered the set recommended for my 12-16.5 R4 tires and a set of spring tensioners to try (I normally use bungee cords). I go through the normal steps of installing new chains and see theres some slack so I remove one cross over section and go back to fitting and it still appears that theres enough slack even with the spring tensioners to remove another. The inside hook and outer cam lock are in the first link past the next cross over chain and I can still put my fists under at least 2 cross over chains. I have never had to remove more than 1 cross over section for L, BX tractor or ATV chains. Has anyone else ever had to remove 2 cross over sections to fit their B series with 12-16.5 R4 tires?

I thought it was just me. I just put a set of their 2-link V-bar ladder chains on my B3200 and had the same problem. I took out one cross chain and I think I could stand to take out one more but I didn't dare. Guess its better they give too much than not enough.

I ordered the same chains from tirechains.com for my B7510 last year and I had to remove 3 cross chains. I contacted tirechains.com and was told that when a particular size gets sold out, they send the next larger size up but put it in a box labeled with the size you ordered. Anyway, I was also confused why I had to remove 3 cross links from a chain that was supposed to correctly fit my tire, so I was happy with that answer. It all worked out with a vise and some tools.

Thanks for the sanity check. I had read their explaination in their knowledge base but wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.

"Tire chains are designed to fit a range of tire sizes and tread designs. The overall length of the chains may be longer than necessary. As long as the cross chain width is correct, the overall length can be shortened by removing 1 (or more) cross chains by prying the cross chain hook open and removing the entire cross chain."

I did email them before ordering to make sure they had the correct size in stock... but I guess 2-3 additional cross links is still in the defintion of the correct size. Not a big deal taking another cross chain section off... just didn't have the drive to remove them and refit again today. :)

Chains fitted. 2 cross chains removed on each side. All fingers intact. I got to thinking after finishing that I'm fortunate to have all the tools to do the job. Tirerack's site shows a hammer, chisel and pliers to do this. I had several variations of those, safety glasses, bolt cutters, a mini anvil...

I hear you on the fingers intact. I got one fetched up in the spring tensioner and that hurt. As much snow as we seem to be getting this winter I think I am going to wait and cut out my other cross chain next season. I just used a cutoff wheel on my hand grinder.
