B7500 w/ MMM and 16\' trailer.....

I have a RFM for my B7500 right now but I'm thinking about buying a MMM but I wonder if the tractor will go on a trailer with the MMM attached without dragging?

Re: B7500 w/ MMM and 16\' trailer.....

My BX22 went onto the trailer without any problem with the MMM attached, but it was the width that was the problem. It fit with 1/16" to spare on each side. If you are buying a trailer, keep the width in mind while shopping...

Re: B7500 w/ MMM and 16\' trailer.....

I have no problems with my MMM on my B2710 hitting the trailer. Like others have said, width can be a problem. I have about an inch on both sides of my 72" deck when on my trailer. Also my ramps are 6' long which helps on cutting down the angle when loading or unloading. Just make sure you get a tailer large enough. I would get a 7000lb. 16' duel axle with brakes on at least one axle. Should be able to fit the tractor w/FEL and anything on the back end with no problem.

How wide is your trailer? I'm getting ready to purchase a trailer in the next few weeks.

PaulZ,
I don't have my trailer here at the house so I can't measure. But I think its 78" between the fenders. I might be wrong, but its close to that. With a 60" MMM you should have no problems. I like having slide out ramps vs a drop down gate, this allows you to have something hangover the edge if needed. I know when I have my brush hog and loader on the loader hangs over the back edge a few inches, and the tail wheel has to hang off of the front. Plus I made sides that work great when hauling mulch. (I have attached a photo with the sides on) I have heard that the trailers with the side rails that are about a foot tall are not as strong as the flat beds. Plus the rail will get in the way when you need to load or unload something from the side. I hope some of this info helps you out.

The main thing about loading tractors with mid mount mowers is the angle of the ramps going onto the trailer. Longer ramps lessen the angle and make it easier to drive onto the trailer. You may have to bungee the discharge shoot up out of the way to get a little more side to side room. Hope this helps.

This depends more on the manufacturer and design. Some manufacturers use the side rails to add stiffness to the trailer because the substructure is made of a smaller gauge and size of steel and others just add the side rails because some customers want them and the substructure is the same. This is where knowing the trailers net weight will help to determine how well it is made. When comparing trailers, count the number of ribs and measure the size and gauge of the metal. Take notes on each one you are considering. Count the number of leaves and measure the width of the springs also. Not all trailers are created equal. You can always add a second set of brakes to the axles (if the provision for brakes is on the axle), but you don't want to be rebuilding a new trailer just because a manufacturer built it cheaply to start with. Pay a little more and get a better built trailer. From the top end, they all look just about the same. Even the quality of the tires is something to look at.

Re: B7500 w/ MMM and 16\' trailer.....

I bought a 16' dual axle with a brake on one axle. I'm not sure of the width but right now when my B7500 is on the trailer there is plenty of room from side to side.If I'm not mistaken it is 78" between the rails.
I've got a 5' RFM right now and I don't think it's going to be good on the yard because of the tight spots and the tail swing when turnning. It's great on the open spaces but I think a MMM would be better in those tight spots.I just don't like the difference in price. What brands of MMM will fit on a B7500?

Re: B7500 w/ MMM and 16\' trailer.....

Don.
On most 16' double-axle trailers the usable floor widths are usually in the 6'4" - 6'7" range and are plenty WIDE enough to handle a 60" mid-mower.

But I do have a personal experience story about B7500s that may be educational for you...

I have a 16' trailer with separate ramps (about 4' long) that sit in a grove at the rear of the trailer when in use. On level ground the front edge of these ramps protrude almost 2" above the height of the floor of the trailer. Once, when un-loading my friend's B7500 with mid-mower, the edge of the mower caught this "lip" of the ramps unexpectedly. At the time I had a smaller B7100 with 48" mid-mower, but I never had a problem with this tractor because the 48" mower had a skid plate design along the outer edges of the mower that prevented this from happening. I can easily load and unload the B7500 when I perform the loading/unloading operation into terrain with a slight uphill slope, or have the trailer attached to a vehicle with a high mounted trailer hitch (thus lowering the rear of the trailer).

Bottom line: Some trailers will work fine, some will not. For trailer that you are considering, pay careful attention to how far the ramp protrudes above the floor of the trailer. Hopefully, you will be able to perform a "practice" loading operation of your B7500 with the trailer you are intending to purchase when attached to your intended tow vehicle.

Re: B7500 w/ MMM and 16\' trailer.....

Thanks, The 16' trailer I have has 5' ramps. I have'nt looked at the height they stick up from the trailer base but I will.I hung a lawnmower deck on a smaller trailer like that before and I thought I was going to rip everything off before I could get stopped. I will check everything out before I buy one.
