Tractor
Kubota B7500
Hi everyone, I have a quick question for you. I recently bought a loghome on 6 acres that came with a Kubota B7500HST, LA302, brush cutter, and alot of other attachments. Here is the deal...the tractor is newer (The house was built 3 years ago, so I think the tractor is approx 3years old). It has 164hrs on it. I finally got a chance to start it - hooked up the mower and started cutting some of the over grown hay. The house has not been lived in in over 2 plus years, so I am assuming the tractor may have not been used for that long as well. So...I start it up....runs fine, take it out of the barn, set the pto to 540 - rev it up to 2500 rpm, it is in low and slowly started to cut some of the Hay : ) Seemed to rev fine but after about 20 mins it seemed to be bogging down - rpms slowed to around 2000 without me touching the throttle. Some smoke was evident from exhaust. I thought the grass may be too much for it so I shut of the PTO and raised the mower. Reduced rpm. I increased the rpm and the engine didnt respond quickly.....slowly climbed to just over 2000rpm and seemed to fluctuate up and down, even when I had the throttle cranked. So I drove it back to the barn and parked it. Any idea what that's about? Is it possible that the fuel is old and is causing problems? It had 3/4's of a tank but the fuel could be over 2yrs old but I don't know for sure.

Any help is much appreciated,

Cheers,

Mitch

I'd check the fuel filter(s) to see if they are ok for starters.

I think condensation and algae growth can be a problem when a diesel sits that long. I would drain the tank and change the filter. I guess it's good practice to fill the tank all the way if it is going to sit for a while. Someone else might have some other ideas.

I would agree that the fuel filters are the most likely area to start with. After sitting for so long, the fuel could easily have become contaminated.

Thanks for your input :) I will change filters and drain the tank and put in fresh fuel. I think it must be that, on a tractor that only has 164hrs on it. Thanks for your help guys! Love this site :)

Cheers,

Mitch,
because you do not know the service history of the tractor I would do a complete servicing of the unit as you don't even know if the original owner
did the all important 50 hour service. A nice tractor like that deserves it!

any time something sits in storage I am always worried about varmits. I would pull the air filter and make sure there are no mice nest in the intake. For such small animals they can cause lots of trouble.

I would definitely do a complete service as well.

Be sure to check the air filters. When my 7500 gets sluggish it is almost always due to dirty air filters. I would follow the above advice on fuel too - bottom line is that it is very likely to be either a fuel or air problem based on your symptoms.

Fuel filter change on that machine is a walk in the park, you dont even have to prime the system, just screw it back on the motor with the fuel bowl full and your back in business! Great tractor by the way, i had 1 myself for years.
