Thinking about buying a B7500 rather than a BX22. How do you folks like the 60" ground contact MMM on the B7500. Do the rollers leave marks or does it scalp? I know its probably not as good as the BX22 suspended deck MMM, but does it still do a good job? Are you satisfied? How hard is it to take on and off? Thanks for your help

Sorry but another mower question. I've seen some comments regarding the 60" MMM rubbing the rear tires. I saw one at the Kubota dealer with R4 tires and the deck raised with the tire rubbing the MMM. Does the tires make a difference or is this just a B7500 MMM problem?

Hi,

I have a B7500 with the 60" mmm. Yes, the R4 tires will rub, but only slightly on the left rear anti scalp wheel bracket, when the deck is all the way up and the tires are at their furthest out position. I believe that it is only a problem with the R4's as it only hits on the squared tread. Tires with a rounder tread profile shouldn't have a problem. You could eliminate this problem by not moving the left rear tire to its furthest out position. I have also found that when you pin the deck in the full up position that releasing the deck to let it hang in the rear will create enough clearance that the tires will not rub.

The castor wheels will leave marks if the soil is damp. In fact, the deck will make marks in places where it is firm enough for the tractor to not make marks.

I haven't had any issues with scalping.

It is very easy to install and remove the deck if you have a fel. If you don't, you will need to get the front of the tractor raised some how. The hardest part of installing the deck for me is getting the drive shaft on the mid pto. I usually end up crawling under it from the rear so I can get both hands on it.....one to hold the slip collar back and the other to rotate the pto shaft to line up the splines.

Keep the rear tires in the narrow position and the rollers won't rub. Parts of my lawn are "swampy" and the rollers don't leave marks but the tires DO! Even turfs will track some because of the weight of the tractor.
My motto is : pick out a tractor that suits your needs - then get the next size bigger. I tested a bx22 and liked it, then bought the 7500 and loved it.

There are many threads on this subject. Unfortunately the BX 60 in MMM is a far better performer than the one available for the remainder of the B series. Yes, the castor wheels rut and tear the grass and leave marks, yes it is more scalp prone, no it does not cut as well and has less vacum as well. I can compare because I have both and there is a big difference. Not only that but the BX deck removes and installs much easier and is also easier to adjust cutting height etc. J

would a RFM work better than the MMM on the 7500 ?

How would a RFM get around trees and flowerbeds and landscaping? I think a MMM is better except for large open expanses. J

I am very happy with the 60" deck on my B2400. The rollers will dig
in if the ground is very wet. My neighbor has a BX2200, and about the
only difference I see in cut is the two stripes from the center deck
support rollers.

Of course, I would yield to Mr. Crows opinion since he has both models.

As others pointed out. The mower is one item to compare between
the two models. Other things are ground clearance, loader capacity
to name a couple.

Good Luck

I had a MMM on one tractor then a RFM on the next. When I got the B7500HST, I went with another RFM. Real simple on and off, and easy to back under trees for trimming. Here's a copy of a reply I made to another post that may be of interest:

The uncut radius has some importance, but being able to manouver the tractor counts for a lot. I have a B7500HST with a RFM. My trees, flower beds, etc are all surrounded by mulch. The smallest "mulch circle" is about 18". The technique I use involves aiming the left side of the tractor at the obstruction, then swerving around it to the right, so the deck follows around the obstruction. On the next trip around, I do the same thing with the right side of the tractor, and go around the obstruction to the left. One thing that's not mulched around is a tetherball pole. That requires making passes at 90° to the normal mowing direction to get the last little bit of grass..................chim
