B7200 starter not engaging

I recently replaced the starter solenoid on my b7200. There are two issues which are probably interrelated.

When I turn the key the starter sometimes will engage and start the engine but not disengage so I disconnect the positive wire from it so bit doesn't constantly run. Other times it will spin but not engage, after a few turns of the key it will engage and do what I mentioned above.

I have replaced the key switch, cleaned all connections I could find, new solenoid. Battery is charged

Any thoughts?

You may want to check out the starter's bendix drive... sounds like it may be hanging up. Does the solenoid mechanically push out the bendix on the B7200, or does it spin out?

The bending pushes it out. When I installed the solenoid I wasn't sure if the hooked end of the solenoid had to go a certain direction, I installed it as close to the same as the old one I removed.

From the description of the thing sometimes refusing to engage and sometimes stuck engaged, I think the starter and Bendix should be pulled off the tractor and inspected. There's obviously something wrong. My guess is a broken or weak spring on the Bendix or a worn shaft/slider where the gear moves in/out. Note: a lot of small Kubotas have an issue with refusing to turn the starter when the key is turned. Other threads have blamed that on poor connections to ground at the solenoid and other spots in the chain. In my own case I have found it will trigger the solenoid if I persist with multiple tries. I do not see how that would cause your symptoms however.
