The collar that connects the engine to the transmission shaft on my 32 year old B7100 HST is shot. Apparently, when the pin that went through the collar and the shaft broke, the collar spun and destroyed the splines on it and the tranny shaft. Now, I can put a new pin in it, but since the only thing taking the stress is the 5mm pin, it soon breaks again.
I don't want to spend the money to have the tractor torn apart for a new transmission shaft and collar. It would cost more than the tractor is worth. Can't do it myself, too old.
My question is, can the collar be permanently welded to the drive shaft. This would need to be done through the access port in the frame, above the connection point. I assume the parts are both hardened, since I can't drill though with a 1/4 inch cobalt drill, to enlarge the pin hole for a stronger pin. I don't care if I can never get it apart again. If anything else breaks, I will get a ZTR, since this thing is only used with the belly mower for taking card of 3 acres of grass.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thx
