I just bought a b7100 for a really good price that was being sold as a non runner for parts/repair. The pervious owner inherited the tractor and couldn't getting it running so he decided to sell it. He had spent 3 weeks trying to get it going thinking they had done everything possible. It took me 15 minutes and all I had to do was bleed the injector pump. Anyway I this point I thought I had struck gold! but then I noticed oil leaking from the bell housing. I know the tractor was sitting for MANY years before this kid got it so I thought it might be the rear main seal. I split the tractor yesterday (pita!) and sadly it's not coming from the engine side. My question is how do I replace remove the thrust bearing and replace the seal without breaking the tractor apart more? There has to be an easy way of doing this, I hope. Oh no.....it's a UFO.....unidentified fluid output.

Hmm...You would think that if the leak was aft of the throwout bearing, that the oil would stay aft. (leaking onto the shaft) But.

Is there a hole above the bell housing that would allow oil to enter and run out where the throwout bearing is? With that much oil, what ever is leaking should be clean and noticeable.

Time to get the penlights and flexible mirrors out to inspect the deep and dirty. Good luck and keep us posted.

there' no hole about the throwout bearing and I can't see how oil is coming in other than the rear main seal. I think my best bet is to just take the clutch housing and the flywheel off and go from there. the oil that came out of the bell housing was black, like the oil in the engine. Maybe it's leaking and the flywheel is fling it all over the bell housing and getting on the throwout bearing? I'll update when I get the stuff off.

I would assume that you would need to degrease the clutch anyways so it sounds like a good plan.

May have to pour some dye in the thing to see where it's flowing from.

so took the clutch housing, flywheel, and the bearing case cover off and it looks like someone has been in there before. the seal looks pretty good and it doesn't look like it's been leaking. It looks like they put gasket maker around the bearing case cover where it meets the engine and that where it was leaking from around the bolts. does anyone know is there a proper gasket for it and what is the seal part number? I figure might as well get a new seal so that I don't have to go back in there. how would you degrease the clutch? brake cleaner? it looks new and to get another one is $175.
