B6100D Front universal broke

Had my front drive shaft universal at the differental end go out today. Anyone have any input on is this easy to replace? I have a loader on it so it is slighly hard to reach into the access hole. Wil I have to pull the front axle or can it slip into the front then re-attach the broken rear section?

One more question on this...If I pull the front drive shaft can I still run it? Or will I be loosing fluid from the front axle? Had a project I really wanted to finish this weekend.

of course it can wait if I run the risk of more damage.

Should be able to pull it off and run as two wheel drive. Splined shaft end is sealed so you won't lose any fluid. You just won't have 4 wd, unless when universal broke something happened to seal but that is unlikely. Check it before you run it.

Rory,

A suggestion after you get the U joint off. If you have a drive line supply place in your area, you might take the parts to them.

I needed a longer metric PTO shaft for my Bota. Couldn't find what I needed at TSC, and a friends suggested I try the local Tractor Trailer Drive line place. They build/repair drive lines for big rigs and all kinds of stuff.

They had a drop off piece of what I needed for $20. If TSC had had what I needed, I would have had to buy a 4 ft stick at $50!

Had I taken the yokes with me, they would have cut it and installed it for almost nothing.

Might be something to consider.

Thanks for that info! There are a couple of places that come to mind with that suggestion. I was wondering if there was a universal universal that would fit quicker than ordering. Even though tractor smart has it listed for 31.00. Also haven't gotten it out yet to see the damage.

$31 doesn't sound bad, even when adding shipping. But I'd still take it to a local place and ask them. They might even put it back together for you.

I suspect there are only so many standard sizes.

Well I got lucky only thing broke was the pin thru the universal and diff shaft. Just couldn't see well at dusk last night. back in business and going to play. i mean work!
