Need a little help/advice regarding the right lifting rod on my B2910. The manual says it is "Ratchet Type" and that you press the up and down changing lever, and turn the adjusting handle from side to side to shorten or lengthen the rod with the the implement on the ground. When I do that, nothing really happens. I can flip the little toggle back and forth, and no matter which position it is in, nothing happens. I do not get a ratcheting effect. I can take the rod and twist it all around by hand and it will raise or lower the implement. My question is: Does this rod really ratchet, or does it just operate as a screw when I twist the rod around and around?
Thanks,

Ches,

I have not adjusted mine for a while, but if I remember correctly, you push the little tab on the top, and it changes the direction of the ratchet. You use the little handle that is there and it does ratchet either up or down depending on the postion of the little toggle tab at the top.

Now this is from memory. If you want I can check it tomorrow and tell you for sure....never had a problem with mine though...when I have used it...

Hi Chez,
My 2910 will do that on occasion also. What happens to mine is that the ratchet mechanism gets full of dust and dirt, and it will just "freewheel" and not catch the pawl. If you hold one side or the other of the direction toggle in while you rotate the lever back and forth, you can confirm that it does work. If you can make it ratchet doing that, then you can probably get it to work by cleaning out the ratchet mechanism with brake cleaning fluid or some other heavy duty cleaner. Then give the mechanism a shot of WD-40 or something similar and for good measure give the grease zerk on the tube a couple of squirts, and it should cure it. If that dosen't fix it, you may have a broken spring inside the ratchet mechanism.
Good Luck

If I’m trying to adjust length without any weight on the link arm the ratchet will not work. I must hold the threaded end to make ratchet work.
The problem will get worse if I grease ratchet assembly.

Yep, Ron has just described the solution. When mine has no pressure on it the ratchet does not function, but just get a little positive or negative pressure and it works fine.

Thanks guys. Guess I must have a broken spring or something in my ratchet. the ratchet is clean and full of grease. I just went out and lifted the 3 pt. with a tiller on it to put weight on it. Made no difference with or without weight. Still get no ratcheting effect. I can turn the handle all the way around by hand to raise and lower. Is the spring something I can replace? I have a parts listing book, but can't seem to see the spring. From what I can see, it might be inside the "Comp. Turnbuckle" (part # 6C170-6538-0) which means I have to replace the entire Turnbuckle. Is that right? If all else fails, I guess I can live with it via manually twising the rof all the way around.
