I have the WSM and the OM...and need help on how to replace the plastic cover (item 100 on page 112 of the parts manual) for the universal joint on the front drive shaft. The one on my B2910 was pushed back and all wadded up, so I thought that I would replace it before installing a loader.

Per the manual, I must remove the propeller shaft (remove pin of course); remove the 2 pins in the universal joint, drop the bearing holder, and the shaft would slide right out.

I've tried this to no avail. I have pushed the Universal joint back until it bottomed into the UJ; push the propeller shaft until it too, bottoms into the UJ; and pushed the front coupling at the front axle all the way to front.

What am I missing? My only recourse seems to indicate that I'll have to remove some sheet metal in the rear, near the transmission, and remove the pins at the UJ to create even more range of movement to get one of the ends to clear.

This sounds way too complicated...so I would like a second opinion before I go any further.

Accoding to my WSM all you need to remove is clamp (item 110 in your PDF drawing). Remove 2 pins (items 070 and 090). Slide shaft back. Could some of the damaged old sleeve be keeping shaft from sliding back far enough. Try calling your dealer. They may be able to help with repair.

Thanks for the info, but I figured out what I was doing wrong. Once I slid the front coupling on the propeller shaft toward the rear, I was home free. If I had read the WSM word for word, it would have been about an hour job.

Thanks again!

Bill (Henro), we haven't heard much from you lately; glad to see you're still around and hope all's going well for you.
