Hello everyone:
I have been following the various Kubota forums on TBN for the last 6 - 7 months and would like to thank everyone for their varied input and lively discussions.
I live near the town of Oxford Station in eastern Ontario (Canada), which is approximately 100 km (60 miles) north of the international bridge at Ogdensburg, NY. I own 58 acres but the local farmer looks after the haying & driveway cleaning with his large equipment. My main needs include grass cutting (2.5 acres) and tilling (a large vegetable garden & 0.5 acre of nursery stock).
I thought that I would add my experiences to the collective record.
Basically, by the end of the summer, I had decided upon the B2910 with several attachments (see below for details). I used TBN for research & pricing - I converted USD to CDN dollars by multiplying everything by 1.5 . For those of you that are interested, another useful website to compare pricing for the Kubota B series was :
http://www.kazez.com/~will/kubota.html
Then, I visited two local dealerships to obtain quotations. These turned out to be basically "list price" minus approx. 9 % - it was interesting to note that both quotations were about $900 apart.
Using the quotations & pricing information gleaned from various sources, I worked out what I thought was a fair purchase price. Then, I read up again on the negotiating/bargaining threads and went in to see the dealer that had made the extra effort to arrange a test drive of a B2910 - in fact this dealership was the closest one to me.
Here was the pre-tax, quotation - "list price" - $32,850 CDN (including dealer prep. & delivery) - for my Kubota package :
Tractor - B2910HSD with block heater & R4 tires & fixed ROPS
FEL - LA402 with 60" bucket
MMM - RCK60-27B
Rototiller - L60CA with slip clutch
There was some movement on the discount price from the quotation during negotiation, but the dealer was willing to include both the service manual & the parts manual as part of the deal. Also, we talked about the first 50 hour service and the dealer had no problem with including this and the trucking to dealership for the service work as part of the deal.
At this point, I could have tried to be a hard case, but I was within about $500 of my purchase price and decided that we were close enough to do the deal. Final pre-tax price for the package was $29,200 CDN. Unfortunately, the combined provincial & federal taxes up here set me back another 15 %.
One interesting note, while the FEL & MMM are made by Kubota, the Kubota tillers are made by third parties & are branded Kubota. The Kubota BL60C tiller is made in Italy, while the Kubota L60CA tiller that I am buying is made in Canada by Buhler Industries of Winnipeg, Manitoba which make farm equipment under the Farm King / Allied brand name. Pricing & parts availability made the Canadian product a better value.
When I did my deal a week before Christmas, the "list price" was based on 2001 prices from Kubota that were still in effect. Anticipated delivery is next week - my excitement is growing. I will visit the dealer first, to be shown how the loader & mower can be attached/reattached properly in their heated shop. It will be better than learning how to do things outdoors at -5 to
-10 C in the snow. Then we can do a once-over at delivery time when we have it inside my unheated barn.
Again, thank you for the help - all the best for 2002.
