First time out only 4" of heavy wet snow. What a beast:cool: Well for 10 minutes anyway until the chain broke:mad: . Just called the dealer - they don't have exact chain, but have generic #50 & will make one up for me. Covered under warranty, but it's an hour ride each way:( .

I suppose I ought to check the sprocket alignment when I put it back together... Anything else I should look out for?

Tension and lubricating, I use a motorcycle spray oil it comes out thin and thickens up like a grease and stays in the chain, any good bike shop should carry it
don't forget, we love pictures here :D

Did you hit a rock or something hard that caused the chain to snap? If so, they maybe your shear bolts are too strong. I know I have broken two of them already and just replaced them with the supply of shear bolts that comes with the snowblower. BTW, mine is a 60" JRW 3pt rear mount.

But.....did you get your leaves picked up before the snow hit?

Yes I got most of the leaves picked up, well at least until Saturday's wind blew them over from the neighbors... Nothing that can't wait until spring.

I didn't hit anything with the blower. I specifically did a "pre flight" of the driveway yesterday to remove any hazards from the pavement and surrounding areas.

I love seasonal changes! Especially all in one weekend.

Fall on Saturday.
Winter on Sunday.

It only takes a small pebble to jamb the impeller blade (don't ask me how I know. BTDT) A shear bolt should have split in two before the chain broke. Must have been a defect in the chain.

Next time I'm sure there will be MUCH more snow to test the snowblower. :)

A small piece of gravel may have gotten between the chain and the sprocket. That'll do it every time.

BTW, good call checking the driveway first. I once had a blower try to eat a whole Washington Post, Sunday edition. Not pretty. Two hours of swearing with a utility knife and a 6' digging bar got it out. Luckily no damage.

Oh ya.... I did the "sucking up the newspaper" trick one time with the snow thrower.

It's a frickin' mess. Especially the little plastic bag they put the paper into.... it stretches and get wrapped around anything that turns.

It's a good idea to check out the driveway before hand if you can.

well got the new chain on last night - what a pain - dark, cold garage, black paint on the blower didn't help the visability any.:( Ran her for 15 minutes, ran great, but kinda noisy (I started a new thread to discuss noise).
