Tractor

When I bought this tractor the block was cracked I got a new block and used the old head. On the front left corner of the head there is a hole for the coolant on the block the is no hole for the coolant to go into the block. Can I use it this way or could I drill a hole in the block to let the coolant into the block. The temp gauge show no over heating problems and the head gasket came with a rubber washer to go in the hole in the head gasket. I was talking with a machine shop operator who said he remember something about it but couldn't remember the details. Has anyone ran into this before
