I'm having trouble disengaging the diff. lock after using it. I've tried fwd and reverse, tried alternating right and left brakes, etc... When it finally comes out, it makes one horrible sound/feel. It's a real pop, and not at all smooth. What am I missing? Any tricks? When using it, I have the diff. lock depressed the whole time I feel I need it, I'm not just pushing it down and removing my foot. Also, I make sure I'm driving as straight as I can, with zero turning.

Mind you, I've only used it a few times. One, I'm scared of breaking something, and two, I've always thought it was a last ditch measure.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Does it do this consistanly? Sometimes they don't release until you stop or change direction. I've never heard mine make a noise when it releases though. I always make sure the tractor is stopped befor you engage it.

I am not sure of how the diff lock works mechanically (how it could stick/spring release:confused:), but mine stuck engaged the first time I used it. I believe it made a loud noticible clank when it finally disengaged. I am not excatly sure when it disengaged, but I remember pulling a log and heard the clank and could not relate it to anything else. I too had made many manuevers (fwd, rev, turning, individual wheel braking) and it did not disengage. However, I have used the diff lock since and it seemed to engage and disengage okay. Also the diff lock on my b7200 has never worked right since I got it. It is very hard to get it to engage(adjustment maybe:confused:). Wonder if Kubota uses the same mechanism for most of their diff locks? I wonder if there is a simple fix for this?

Does your tractor also come out of four wheel drive hard? Are you engaging it while the wheels are spinning?

You shouldn't be engaging while spinning, it will hurt the tractor.

When your four wheel drive disengages or engages hard it is telling you taht the air pressure needs to be adjusted in your tires. Depending on the jobs that you are working with and the types of tires you have try and find a happy medium for both. With industrial tires we find between ten and twelve pounds works well on the rear for most tractors. The fronts might need to be higher do to the loads the loader is carrying.

The diff lock on my B3030 was hard to release when it was new. After using it for a dozen times or so, it started to release easily.
