Howdy,

I searched but couldn't find answers. My B26 has been sitting under a tarp for about 2 years and today I tried starting it and it will crank but it will not fire. The machine has 40 hours on it. I took the fuel line off of the fuel filter and fuel pours out of the line so there is no blockage there. The solenoid on the injector pump clicks when I turn the key on. I did not remove the solenoid to verify it is actually moving. I loosened the bolt on the mechanical fuel pump and fuel pumps out when I crank the engine. I loosened an injector line and cranked the engine but no fuel came out. I assume it's the injector pump so does anyone have any ideas how to get the injector pump to start working?

Thanks,
Tim

The pump could be seized from sitting for so long. You could try tapping lightly with a rubber or soft faced plastic hammer and see if it frees up possible internal parts. You could also try warming the pump with a hair dryer, carefully, to see if that and tapping lightly effects any changes.
Beyond getting it freed up you may have to remove it and send it out. Depending on brand and access there may be an inspection plate that could allow you to spray some lube into the pump to free it's inner workings. Someone familiar with your model can comment on pump particulars.

Did you do any long term storage preparation of the fuel system before leaving it under a tarp for 2 years?!

Tim.. I sent you a prvt msg..
You'll have to remove the sol. & see if you can grab or push/pull the control rack..
Its stuck in the shut-off position..
IF it has a side cover under the pump.. remove it.. That'll help you gain access to the control rack..

It's running! Thanks Coyote & Pumpguy. I took the solenoid off and FWIW the solenoid retracts when the key is on. The plate that moves when the solenoid pin moves was in the "running" position when I removed the solenoid. But I went ahead and moved that plate several times with a screwdriver hoping to loosen something up. I also tapped on the side of the pump. Another thing I did that I didn't do before was loosen 2 injector lines up at the cylinder head. Earlier I only loosened 1 injector line at the pump. I'm guessing where they are loosened doesn't matter? Anyway, it's running like brand new again. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome. Good news outcome. Next time you put it away for long term storage you need to prep the fuel system so this doesn't happen again. You got off lucky. Could have been a very expensive repair if the pump seized up. Get a small can of Seafoam, and follow the directions on how much to add to your diesel tank NOW to keep things running smoothly.

And no, Coyote, I didn't do anything before storing it. What do you recommend please? I might have poured Seafoam in the tank but that was 2 years ago and I barely remember what I did yesterday.

That's funny. We must have been replying at the same time. I agree, Seafoam seems to be a popular product. I'll put some more in.

I tag equipment as to what I did to it prior to putting it in storage for the winter. This way I don't have to try to recall what I did or what I need to do when restoring it to use. Like change blades,, filter(s), etc.

I took the solenoid off and FWIW the solenoid retracts when the key is on.

Either the rack in the pump was stuck or the solenoid pin was stuck, when you turn the key off the relay puts power to the solenoid and the pin comes out for a few seconds to move the rack in and kills the motor, then it retracts and stays retracted until the tractor is shut off again.

That IS good news.. Just treat the fuel w/ an additive & you should be "good to go" for many years..
Just a few things to remember about a diesel engine, a diesel engine doesn't like to sit.. so if you have to put it by the barn.. just start it every so often.. & diesel fuel will go bad.. don't hesitate to drain the fuel tank & above all else, change those filters..
Happy tractoring.. TPG
