Hi,
I have been lurking here for about 6 months and I'm getting pretty close to making a tractor purchase now that my house is nearly done.
I've been looking at the B7510/7610 series, but my dad came across a used B2410HSDB on a dealer lot. It is a 2003 model with about 170 hours and a 60" MMM. He said it looked new. No loader, so it was presumably used mainly for mowing. They want $12900 for this unit and claim that the powertrain still has one year left on the warranty.
Does this sound like much of a deal to you folks?
As a point of reference, I have a quote for a new B7610 with mmm and FEL for $14500. The 7510 can be had for $14K.
What do you think? THanks.

Jared,

I paid $10,500 for my B2400 back in 99 (MMM only). It was 2 years old with 120 hrs. on it. It was another $3,300 to get the FEL for it. If I had your decision, I would get the B7610 with the MMM and the FEL (gotta have the FEL /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif)

Good Luck!

$12,900 is probably too steep for that tractor without an FEL. Having said that, I think I would rather have a slightly used(assuming excellent condition) B2410 with a loader than a new B7610 with a loader for the same money. Just my opinion. By the way, on the HSDB, the "B" stands for bi-speed turn, which in case you don't know, turns the front wheels at roughly twice the speed when turning, making it a very tight turn radius machine. I have bi-speed, and it is a terrific feature.

Thanks for the replies. I think I agree with both of you. If the 2410 with loader could be had for the same money as the new 7610, I'd be very tempted to go with the used 2410.
The dealer says $3200 additional to add the loader to the 2410, so $16100 is the total. I think that is too steep.
Thanks again for the help.

Jared,

B7610 = $13,340.00 with FL. I think you should shop it a little. Hope that helps. Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jared -

If you could fill out some more of your profile - that would help us give you more informed answers.

That being said - since you say "your house is almost finished" - it sounds like the tractor is not playing any (major) part in it's construction - am I correct in assuming you are looking for a "mower first" - with FEL capacities second?

If so - then the most relevant questions to ask yourself are:
1) Do you have lots of obstacles (bushes, rocks etc) to mow around?
2) Do you plan on doing extensive landscaping - specifically grading / boxblading?

First question: mowing obstacles

the B2410 BiSpeed Turn will likely be a dream if you have a tricky yard. However - as you seem to *just* be completing your house - I'm assuming the landscaping is therefore not complete. With a bit of care when placing bushes etc. - the necessity of a tight turning mower may be eliminated altogether.

I find my B7610 (without the BiSpeed turning) VERY manueverable - as moving forward / backward with the HST pedals quickly becomes almost second nature. Even though it is likely TWICE the size (length / height / width - and weight) or my old Sears 12 hp riding mower - I find it MUCH easier to mow with - and find it leaves the lawn with a better appearance after mowing!

Following the K.I.S.S. rule - unless you have a specific NEED for the BiSpeed turning - it seems to me like another layer of complexity in terms of long term care / maintenance. Take the B2410 for a spin - then take a B7610: does the "extra tight turning" make that much of a difference?

*********************

Question two: extensive landscaping

One of the B2410s *highlights* (as a Deluxe model) - is the "position control" of the 3PH - whereas the B7510 / B7610 (standard models) - only have a "quarter inching" control.

If you plan on levelling a large area with a BB - or perhaps rototilling a good sized garden - then the position control of the B2410 would be worth it. But if you don't have any need specific need for it - then the quarter-inching control will probably be sufficient.

********************************

When I did my research before purchasing my B7610 - I had originally settled on a B2410 (but WITHOUT the BiSpeed turn) - mainly because it offered a slightly higher 3PH lift capacity. But when my local dealer didn't have any B2410s available - the B7610 has the same engine, FEL etc. I only wish the B7610 had a cup holder..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

********************************

Last thought: if you don't plan on having a "maze of obstacles" - so no tight mower turning requirements - you might want to consider a rear finish mower instead of the MMM. It should be considerably less than the MMM at the same width - allowing you of course to buy more attachments for the same money! Plus it would likely be easier to mount / remove when switching tractor jobs. Just a thought.

(I have lots of things to mow around in my yard - so I went with the MMM - click thru the pics I have linked in my signature - I show how I remove my MMM without too much difficulty. If you keep all 4 wheels on the ground - it becomes MUCH harder to do!)

Sounds like you will be "seeing orange" shortly in any event! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers,

Dan

(Edit) PS: The B2410 - while nice - is only *half* (at best!) a tractor without a FEL. I'd go with the B7610 / LA 352 FEL and a RFM - and you'll likely be way under the cost of adding a FEL to the B2410. Once you see what you can accomplish with *just* a FEL - you'll shake your head that you considered a CUT without one! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Also - if you are financing - you will be able to get lower rates on the new B7610 - as opposed to a used B2410 - just *another* thought! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dan,
Nice website. The pallet forks are pretty cool.
I should have been more clear in my original post, but a FEL will be present on whichever tractor I purchase.
How do I plan to use the tractor? The primary use will be mowing approximately 2 acres with another 2-1/2 in pasture. It's all open area other than the house and shed. There is no landscaping yet, so any obstacles that pop up will be my own doing. The other uses will include some light landscaping work (grading, etc.) and maintaining my 225' gravel driveway. I will probably find other ways (excuses) to use the tractor once I get it!

Tom,
Did that $13340 price include the mmm? If so, that sounds excellent. I've had quotes ranging from $14500 to $15800 for the B7610 with mmm and FEL.

Thanks.

Jared -

I think Tom posted that's only with the FEL - as I recall my 54" MMM was @ $2300 - so that puts you squarely up around $15.5K - like you've been quoted.

In my opinion - if you can get a B7610 with LA352 FEL and 60" MMM for $14,500 - I'd say take it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I think I paid $16,100 for that setup (but 54" MMM) when I bought mine two years ago - but prices seem to be generally higher here in the NorthEast compared to what others post from around the country. (The $14.5 K quote might be with a smaller capacity LA 272 or LA 302 FEL??)

I'm not sure of the exact pricing - but I think you can get a rear finish mower for significantly less than the MMM...something like this 60 inch RFM on eBay (new) . See what your dealer can offer you as well.

*********************

Thanks for the details on what you have planned - I think a B-series is nicely matched to your mowing needs.

Another question on FEL: in my case - I knew I would occasionally be faced with a good-sized rock in our wonderful N.E. soil - so one criteria for me was to get the most powerful FEL I could - and the LA 352 is only offered on the B2410 and B7610 models. There are some rocks that I was *just* able to move with it - so I know I did right by choosing this setup (it was the only major point of friction between me & "Finance Committee" during the purchase period /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

That being said - if you don't necessarily require the "most power" (although it certainly can't hurt! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ) - you may also want to consider the B7510 / LA302 FEL combination. You would save on both the CUT and FEL vs. a B7610 - and I don't think you would notice the difference in mowing duties - and still shouldn't have a problem maintaining your 225' gravel drive.

**********************************************

Final thoughts:

If I remember correctly - the *new* price difference between the B7610 (standard) and the B2410 (Deluxe) was @ $1,000 - more even if it has BiSpeed turning option. So if you ask your dealer what the B7610 with *just* the MMM costs - you'll get an idea of how much you're saving if you went with the used B2410.

My 2-year old B7610 has @ 180 hrs on it - and the B2410 you're looing at has likely had a "cushy" life if it's only seen 170 hours of mower duty: the frame / trasmission etc. have probably hardly been strained.

One thing you didn't mention: tires. What does the B2410 have on it? I'm guessing turfs - since it only has a MMM. If you plan on doing wintertime work - then you'll probably need to get a set of chains - these can run several hundred dollars for good ones.

If it has R4 (industrial) treads - which I have - I find that I have decent traction on snow / ice in the winter - and great traction otherwise (unless it's "Mud Season" - which thankfully was very short this year). As long as I don't try to mow in 4WD - and go easy through the corners - the R4s don't bother my lawn at all.

Hope the info helps - and doesn't confuse more! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
