Kubota BX23
So what do you guys think a 40 hour BX23 is worth? Stock BX23, with the 60 inch mid-mount mower. I may be relocating and will probably sell the BX23, and get a different machine.

Depends on the local supply. Since you have a nearly new machine, you should be able to get top dollar for it...unless the local dealers have bunches of them on the lot. In that case, you'll need to take a little less since, although these things hold value a lot better than cars!

You will have to price is so it is a large enough savings for the next owner to be able to justify purchasing used vs. new. If the price differential is too close most people will purchase the new unit. Think of how much you would want to save if the position is reversed. Is $1000 enough of a savings to sway you to purchasing used? $1500? I could have had a used machine when I purchased mine, but $1500 wasn't enough of a savings to buy a used machine, no matter how clean it appeared. $2500 would have swayed me. You can transfer the balance of the factory warranty. A new machine comes with the warranty starting when it is purchased. This might be only a few months, but it might be significant to a purchaser when considering new vs. used. Most depreciation of any machinery is always in the first year and it gets less in succeeding years. Same with cars. The biggest hit is always in the first year....

I would put it on ebay if I were selling mine. I looked through ebay for quite a while before buying mine, and the general feel I got was that a relatively new, low hours, BX23 with a mower deck would draw between $12k and $14k, depending on the seller. There is a dealer in PA named McGrew Equip who sells alot of equipment. They had a few ebay auctions for BX23's which were in the $13.5k range. They sold a BX2230 with a loader, mower, and box blade, for about $12k in a recent auction. The trick to generating a premium price on ebay is to have a very accurate description, and alot of pictures, and the "enlarge picture" option. Also, you will need to be willing to set up shipping for the tractor, otherwise it will sell for alot less. When I decided to buy a new tractor rather than used, my decision was based on ebay's tractor prices. I think I will take a $2300 hit if I sell my BX23 in the next year or so (I probably won't, but who knows), but that's not much depreciation in comparison to cars. Selling it on ebay will take some extra effort answering questions and getting shipping quotes, but it will also bring more money than a local sale in the Equipment Trader or Bargain Trader.

I have sold many cars on Ebay, and am quite familiar with the process. I may go that route, but will offer it here first. My first Kubota was bought by a fellow TBN member "Boone", so I will give this a try first.

Junkman, your logic mirrors mine when it comes to pricing. A new one will be about $17000plus tax, so I think mine would be attractive at the $15000 number....thats what I have in mind. Saves about $2000 upfront, and quite a bit more in taxes.

Would it cost you $2000 or more to ship it to your new local?? If it's even close or half that cost to ship, I'd just keep it, especially if you plan on buying the same model again...

As a reference, it cost me $560 to ship a Jeep CJ7 from Poughkeepsie, NY to Atlanta, GA. A BX23 could be shipped on a car carrier as well so prices would be similar.

The BX22/23 can not be shipped on most car carriers. I know this because I tried to get a similar machine shipped from MO to CT a couple of years ago. It is too narrow for the wheel spacing of the car carriers. It could go in one of the car carrier enclosed transporters, but that option is expensive. If you decide to ship it, you will need the exact dimensions of the wheel base and the track for them to give you a accurate answer if it will fit on the carrier. Do a lot of price comparison, because the prices can vary up to double for the same move. Also ask if they are a broker or do the move on their own trucks. Many times when using a broker, the service isn't very good and the price can change on the delivery end. I recommend Intercity Lines in Ware MA for any car move. I believe that they would handle a tractor also. http://www.intercitylines.com/

Most seasoned buyers will also consider the finance options on new machines vs used ones. 0% for 2 years can be worth some $$$ as well.

The easiest way to ship tractors is to log onto www.yesterdaystractors.com and check the "Hauling schedule" here people post loads to and from and it works quite well.
