I'm changing the oil seal in the front wheel bevel gear case. The first photo shows the exploded parts. The second photo shows the same parts partially assembled. I'll need to press the piece on the left into the bearings inside the piece on the right.
The new oil seal came with a very thin film of some kind of lubrication on it. Is it necessary to add more to make sure it slides easily as I assemble the parts? If it does need more, what should I use? Even if it doesn't need more, will it hurt to put a little more on anyway?
