B21 Backhoe Ground Rules
Hello all. I have seen a few post regarding proper operation of a backhoe but nothing specific to what I have done. Yesterday, I had my hoe extended and hooked around a 3x3x8 piece of concrete. I got carried away and rocked the machine to get the concrete to budge. Once unseated, I pulled it with the extended hoe, about 30 foot to its final resting place. Once done, I was moving my tractor into my shop that is up a hill. I heard a popping sound followed by grinding. I think I have destroyed my differential and plan on a tear down in a few days. Sitting here thinking about it, even though great leverage, it obviously multiplied the torque in the differential to disastrous level. Have I broke one of the -Thou Shalt Not- rules of backhoe operation and was just unaware of it? Thoughts on my stupidity? I did find a post about a B21 differential tear down which will be invaluable in the coming days. I might try to document mine for the benefit of others. Thanks for the wonderful site and resource.
