B20 Clutch/PTO Adjustment

I am a new owner of a B20. I took the backhoe off to hitch up the 5' tiller. I get nasty gear grinding noises as I raise the lever to engage the PTO to the tiller. What can I do to resolve this gear grinding, the clutch peddle was depressed.
