Hi
I posted this on orange tractor a while ago and got no response
Anyone have any ideas?

I have read a few threads about ways of getting it out of 4wd but nothing seems to work for me. I have lifted the front with loader, lifted the back with hoe, tried while moving very slowly, tried turning wheels, but the lever is just stuck down.
the lever moves up and down about 2 mm, but nothing else.
I dont want to force lever to hard, as it will probably end up in my hand - detached

I just bought this tractor, and apart from this issue it seems great
Thanks
Tim

Probably a slightly bent fork. You can probably take some pressure off by manipulating the F/R pedal or correctly positioning the tractor on some broken ground you have around the yard.

I am not familiar with your model tractor but I am assuming there will be some linkage between the lever itself and the gearbox itself. If so, have you followed this linkage (rods, or whatever) to be certain nothing has come loose, been jammed by a stick, etc.? Sticks are often found to be the cause of such shifting problems, and the previous owner could have gotten something jammed in the linkage prior to selling to you. Hopefully you will find something simple. You seem to have done a lot of things to take the pressure off the driveline, so I would move on to another approach.

It nothing is bent, jammed, loose..., I would be trying to figure out how to get to the fork and get it out of 4x4. If you have much hard surface you don't want to keep driving it locked in 4 wheel drive. Don't turn on hard surface any harder than you have to until you get it out.

Good luck.

If i remeber correctly the lever has a ball and spring in handle that gets rusted, oil the handle where it goes in to trans with pentrating oil of your choice. after oiling use loader to lift front tires up and work lever and applie more oil. if dont work right away just keep oiling it as the ball gets rusty as its on outside of trans.

A similar thing happened to me with the bi-speed turn lever on my B1550. The problem was that the spring loaded ball retainer was gummed up and prevented the lever from moving. The solution was simply to remove the lever and free up the spring. The 4wd lever has a similar spring and ball arrangement so thats something that may be worth checking out. Its part no 100 and 110 in the pdf attached. (A complete parts manual can be found at kubotabooks. Kubotabooks.com)

Incidentally the cause of the gummed up ball was that I had pressure washed the tractor just prior.

Thanks all , you were all a great help.
It was infact the ball and spring. I sprayed it, soaked it and sprayed it soaked it and it now moves smoothly between 2 and 4 wd
