Axle Housing Crack

I have a 2003 Cub 3235, less than 400 hrs. I have changed fluids/filters as directed, it's a great machine, I went to Iraq this summer and the wife emails that the tractor stopped not the engine but will not move long story short had a friend look at it and the rear axle housing has a crack (wife doesn't know how it happened)all the fluid came out hence no movement, I thought these series tractors have a heavy duty cast iron rear axle, Anyone had problems with the axle case cracking?

Pretty sure the 2003 3000 series still had the aluminum housing.

In the 11 years I've worked at a cub dealer I can say I've never seen a cracked axle on a 2000 or a 3000 series. Now...a leaking axle , that's a whole different story.
