Just wondering if any one has install an auxiliary or transfer fuel tank on their Chevy trucks with Duramax.

I have an 85 gal "L" shaped in my bed. Wouldn't leave home without it. Makes it handy on long trips. Makes it worthwhile when prices drop. Makes it handy to fill the tractor.

By the way, '07 GMC Sierra Classic, long bed, crew cab, duramax 2500HD

I put a Transfer-flow 47 gallon replacement ( for OEM under bed ) in my 2001 3500 a few months after I bought it. It has been in there and given me great service from late 2001. About a year later I added a in bed tank tool box with 45 gallons. Kid was younger then and I pulled from NC to Disney campgrounds in Florida several times and wanted to make run with no fuel stop.
I bought 2013 3500 and put tool box tank combo in it. Transfer- Flow stayed in 2001. Unfortunately 2001 got totaled last week due to non English speaking bunch running stop sign on me.
I really liked the Transfer-flow tank and hate to see it go. For normal use around town I only had to stop for fuel once every 2 weeks. I may put one in my 2013.
Quality is good, expensive and heavy. Self install is not real easy. 2 floor jacks needed.
Good luck
Scott

Thinking about a tool box with tank under it with a transfer pump and different ways to hook it up.

If you want to fuel your tractor(s), a in bed tank with pump would work. If only to increase truck mileage between fuel stops, I think a under the bed auxiliary tank is the way to go as bed space becomes a issue.
I only have the OEM tank on my Duktruk (Duramax). I decided to use a 55 gal drum w/pump for the tractor fuel as I buy off-road. Wish I could go further between fuel stops but actually I find myself needing to stop for personal reasons WAY before Duktruk needs to!! :toiletpaper: LOL

Had a GMC CK 4 x 4 that came factory with dual tanks. One alongside both fenders outboard of the frame. A remote transfer valve was somewhere mid body under the pickup bed. For sure that was a factory option at the time. The one fuel gauge was transferred along with tank selection.
One had to be careful to not let a tank run dry as priming/bleeding was one major hassle sitting on the roadside. I once ran the batteries down trying to bleed without proper tools. Was saved by a good passerby that had jumper cables and tools.

JMHO - Great choice of companions. My OEM tank is 34 gals. Increasing it to 54 just didn't seem worth the cost of the replacement. Plus, I have the long bed so the decreased space isn't really an issue. My in bed transfer tank was (mostly) so I could avoid leaving any taxes in CA. The added benefit of being able to fuel the tractor was a decision plus.

There is a big difference in the quality between brands. I have owned a half dozen tanks over the years and got my first RDS this year. The difference in quality is very noticeable. I am sure there are other good brands as well but the quality of stuff at tractor supply is severely la king compared to other brands.

Tractor supply is the walmart of the ag world... great ammount of common items of which not a lot of them are very great.

But they are open later and on Sundays, than the local hardware store. Common plumbing items and bolts have saved my butt a few times.

I wish I could aford a bigger thank in my short bed F250... I dont get to town often, seems needing fuel is the reason most times. Work and all my other reasons for driving are the other direction from home.

I put a UWS tt45 transfer tank 45 Gallon Combo L-Shape and Chest | UWS Truck Accessories US on my "08 Duramax this summer, along with the RDS gravity flow fill adapter RDS Diesel Install Kit for Auxiliary Diesel Fuel Tank — Fits 1999–Current Ford, 2011–Current Chevrolet and GMC, and Dodge 1999–2012, Model# 011025 | Auxiliary, Transfer Skid Tank Accessories| Northern Tool + Equipment that I'm satisfied with. If I had access to the RDS tanks from Northern tool I would have considered them more closely, but there is no distributor in western Canada that I know of. Read the reviews for the fill adapter, it works great just to open the 1/4" ball valve and drive while gravity filling.
The one added feature is the sloped lid option on the toolbox which makes it much easier to see the fifth wheel hitch when hooking up. I have 600+ miles of driving range now.
Also bought a Fill-Rite 15 gpm pump for filling my machinery from the right hand side bung, will remove it for rv'ing this winter.
