Fellas, I researched and asked many questions and read all sorts of reviews about the Chinese Clone Generators before I finally bought the Aurora "Open
Frame" Diesel 3 years ago. One of the main things that I looked for was a WARRANTY. I watched the video (pretty impressive) and even called their sales group in Canada. Smooth talking guy who was "very concerned" that I intended to use it on land where there is no electricity. (in other words as my primary source) Not to worry, I intended to add SOLAR. I did, in fact, add solar and use it for 99% of my needs. As such I have only fired up this noisy generator for 10 minutes at a time to run a bench grinder or air compressor etc. After 3 YEARS it only has 16 hours on it. Last week it shut itself down....I restarted and it ran 20 seconds and it shut down again. I called a friend who told me that they typically have an "oil pressure sensor" so we disconnected it and it ran fine. That evening I drained the oil, pulled the oil screen (very little metal) and refilled with new oil. Still shut itself down after about 15 seconds??? We disconnected the sensor again so we could do some work (figured that the sensor was "stopped up"). After about an hour the unit started SLOWING down, KNOCKING LOUDLY and I shut it down.
I called the distributor (in CANADA) to ask what might be causing this and WHERE an "authorized dealer" might be located for repair.
Rather than answer any of my questions, he asked WHEN was the last time that I had changed the OIL. I replied that I had JUST changed it for the first time.
He replied that oil has to be changed every THREE MONTHS whether it was run or not......or the warranty is VOID. Same question about the FUEL filter....WHAT? NEVER CHANGED???? VOIDS THE WARRANTY. The PISTON RINGS are even supposed to be changed EVERY YEAR.......or the warranty is void. BTW, they have NO "authorized dealer repair"....their procedure is to TALK you thru issues and mail you parts IF you have kept up with their requirements and exceptions. GOOD LUCK with that...!!!

What a crock of EXCREMENT!!!!!! These little "exceptions" and requirements are not disclosed BEFORE you send in a check for $1300.
So.....here I am angry, feelin' foolish and NO GENERATOR.

I have taken it to the local John Deere dealer where they work on Yanmar's and hope they can get this thing running. GRRRRRRR:mad:

That isn't a warranty if you have to do those things, ie overhaul the top end every year so it is warranted. Maybe a lawsuit against the dealer is in order.

I looked at those units one time. The very limited warranty was what made me look elsewhere. The home owner warranty is for one year and 1000 hours whichever comes first. The injectors aren't covered at all. Buy a unit and it is shipped with a bad injector and it is on your dime to replace.

Chinese Clone Generators.. There's your problem.

As you discovered the warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on.

My Honda EU7000 purrs like a kitten and has for years.

Can you pick one up for $1300..nope. But then again its not intended to be a bargain unit.

Not on the warranty, but if it was a PRESSURE sensor and not a level sensor and you unplugged it..............
If you tractor's oil pressure light came on would you just unplug it and go.
On the warranty that sucks. Piston rings every year.............

I go gasoline on small powered units and gave up on anything but Honda Commercial engines, long ago. Don't even use the word GEN###C around me. My 65 kw generator has 857 hours on it, new oil and big fuel filter every year, starts first pull and purrs like a kitten, 13 HP Honda GX engine.

The reason that I wanted DIESEL is that I live far away and only get to my land once a month for about 10 days at a time.from April to November. I can't and don't try to go there in freezing months. No water, steep road and no 4X4. Anyway, I thought a diesel would be more reliable sitting for weeks/months without being run. I have a Kubota Diesel that has no problem starting after weeks/months. Any better solutions?

Properly treated Premium non-ethanol gas can last in generators for a year.

There are very good diesel generators. Low tech Lister diesels can run for decades and be repaired with not much more than a hammer and adjustable wrench! A great big lump of cast iron. If I wanted a low tech, backup power source Id strongly consider one, or even a Listeroid clone, but the clone would require some going over before Id consider trusting it.

For a more refined solution, Kubota makes a diesel genset. USA. GL11000

As does Deutz.http://www.dacie.ca/pdfs/Specials/Gensets/Deutz Genset 5.5 kw.pdf

Yanmar. Diesel / Gas Generators (below -74kVA) | Yanmar

Any of those manufacturers would make a product you could rely on. And of course you could also use your tractor to power a PTO genset.
