Any one using an Atv to pull a rough brush mower? I am looking at DR. Power and Kunz. I have hilly property and have read numerous cautions about Z turns and hills. Area is pasture grass on 20-30 degree slopes about 2.5 acres and other areas only 10-20 degree. Also to maintain trails. The models I am looking at adjust 2- 8 inches.
My 4 wheel drive Kioti can easily go up and down but leaves too many areas that I can not get to. Plus these slopes increase danger of rolling.
Thank you.

We've had a DR, tow behind, ATV mower for about 7 or 8 years. Seems that it's a 44" cut and powered via 17hp Kawasaki engine. Not had good luck with it and would never again, purchase another product from DR.

Thank you. Was quality of machine substandard? Did the Kohler engine give you problems?

Yes, "substandard" is putting it mildly. DR doesn't appear to build machines intended for actual use. Kunz may be good and I've spoke to them considering there machines but I can't comment on them since we're now going a different route altogether.. Our DR has a Kawasaki engine..

I have never seen an atv type more that is not a pile of junk after 1 or 2 use season. All of them seem to be a pita imao, there might be some good heavy ones out there but if they do exist I would imagine they are horribly expensive based on the pricing of the junk ones.

I have a Kunz that I pull behind the RTV. It is very heavy duty, a different class altogether from the any of the others I looked at. They are more expensive though. Mine is one of their rough cut models and I have no problem cutting pretty serious brush, but it still does a good job of mowing the grassy waterways in my fields also.

Something to be aware of, if cutting pretty steep slopes horizontally the mower will track to the downhill side a fair amount, so you have to drive in the unmowed stuff some to get the mower to take a full pass. Up and down is fine of course.

A couple other things. It attaches via a clevis so it allows more free movement, up and down ditches, around trees, etc.

It also has fixed blades rather than swinging blades like many brush hogs. Mine is 57", so it has two fixed blades, they offset one a bit behind the other.

Thank you all. Yes Kunz I am mostly interested in HD rough cut brush mower. Tractor simply cant get to many areas and Z turns may not be smart investment due to hilly terrain. Several members here from attachment thread have swishers hd which they are reporting on favorably.

The lack of free swinging cutting blades made us hesitate on the Kurz. We strike logs, rocks and the dirt with our mowers, so it really is "rough cut". We may have needed to add them if we'd have got a Kurz mower.

The height is easy to adjust manually on the kunz and I think they also offer electronic height adjuster too which might help when you come to rocks and such

I pull my mower with a 660 Grizz and a 850 Sportsman. Both will overheat when mowing in low gear in mid summer after a couple of hours. My 800 Ranger works great pulling the mower too as long as I don't have to back up much in tight quarters

Parts are readily available for the Kunz too. I've replaced belt and belt brake, battery, oil and filter and gas filter in 13 years I've had mine.

Never saw a need for free swinging blades on mine as I can move or mow around most obstacles

KUNZ is amazing product. I have run two 60in finish mowers for 15 years -model C60K. They are built rugged like a compact tractor. I used to pull the two wing mowers behind a compact tractor with a 60in midmount deck for a 15ft cut. My top groundspeed was limited by the tractors max speed (about 5-6mph in range 2 of a 3 speed hydro). 3 years ago I purchased a Kubota RTV and now pull 2 wing mowers at up to 12mph effortlessly.
I don't own the Kunz brush cutter , but a neighbor does and it is overbuilt like the finish mowers, he loves it, and pulls it easily with an ATV.
Customer service is top notch, should you have questions or need parts. I have only needed tires, wheel bearings, blades and filters. I have smashed my mowers into trees and fenceposts , only scratching paint- the finish mowers are 7-guage steel ! Just an amazing outfit building the best product they can. You get what you pay for.
