They are fine for tall grass and very small saplings.

Problem with a ATV you got lots of open parts that are weak. Like CV joints, etc, that aren't made for brush like a tractor. Tractors are a lot more robust especially up front. Saplings and brush will eat up boot covers in the first pass.

The other problem with those drag along brush cutter is as it says -- they drag along. A tractor brush mower on a 3PT can be lifted to clear obstacles.

Then comes HP. Brush cutting is made for high torque applications like diesels. Gas engines are OK, if they are large displacement, multi-cylinder (ie: car engines). We're not talking lawn mower engines which when usually ends up on those tow along brush cutters. Also, the cheaper models are belt driven or don't have slip clutches like you'd have on a PTO from a tractor.

I have seen them being used, but most get rid of them because they don't like them.

a 3pt brush cutter on a 8000lb loader tractor is unwieldy and might have a tendency to get stuck in wetter conditions i was thinking renting a big 3pt to clear and clean the area and one of these to maintain it, seems like sinking one of these and an atv might be easier than getting a tractor unstuck. i have seen those drag behind offset lawn cutters but info on these rough cutters is hard to find. oh and as hp this one is a 44"cut with 20hp v twin

We use one of these ATV, tow behind, rough cut mowers but from another manufacture. While researching its replacement and spying this mower, I called Kunz and chatted with them about the mower you show. Seems it was a Mr Kunz that I spoke with. Nice fellow. Nonetheless, after my conversation I researched adding some step down, free wheeling cutting blades to it, like most rough mowers have, and is something we need for the rough area's we do. Our current mower has them which are dearly needed. We decided that adding them, was to much work and we gave up on the Kunz idea.

Oh and we've towed the 44" mower we have behind UTV and ATV's. Its so easy to tow the wear on whatever tow machine is negligible.

Buy a cheap riding mower with a bad transmission and tow it.

what i'm looking to cut is mostly tall grass and cattails i got a bunch of those swamp willow bush/tree things i could rent a 3pt hog for that. i fire the big red has better flotation. and these kunz seem to have the most power for their size (kunz swisher DR unless someone knows more manufacturers) in all the videos af these it seems like they're not quite cutting all the grass but they all seem to be driving a gazillion mph cant seem to fin a video of someone just taking their time and i don't know of anyone that owns one to see it in person. i can get a used 3pt for the same price as one of these new but that setup is gonna be heavy and cumbersome but could cut anything i can drive over. kind of torn between the big equipment that will do anything you can imagine or one of these overgrown lawn mowers that might be quite handy for sneaking around tight and soft spots.

Here's a link to their videos page. Looks like it's doin it's job quite well...

AcrEase and Till-Ease Videos.

There used to be a TBN member in the Power Trac forum that would drive is Power Trac PT425 running its 60" finish mower while towing two Kunz AcrEase finish mower offset behind it for something like 13 or 14' of total cutting width. He really liked their products and used them commercially in his mowing business. If I had to cut a large area, I'd do the same thing and tow one behind and offset from my machine for a about a 100" cutting width.
