I am looking for ideas on how to mark where I have sprayed herbicide with my 4-wheeler. I spray a total of about 12 acres and I have a 26 gallon boomless sprayer from Northern Tool. I really like this sprayer. I have had it for a few years and it works wonderfully. It is really nice not having the boom and it still puts out a 14 foot wide path. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out since I've bought it is how to mark where I have sprayed. I have had to resort to using step-in posts. 3 post in a line along my 850 ft long field works great but it is very slow. I have to get off the 4-wheeler at every post and move them over. It is a pretty accurate method, just slow. Things I have tried include using an app on my phone that I use when I use the broadcast sprayer on my tractor. It works great for the tractor and the larger swath of the broadcast spreader but I didn't like it for the 4-wheeler. Yesterday I tried using a popular spray indicator marking dye which didn't work. I would of had to of put so much in to make it visible on the field it would no longer be cost effective. I have also done a little research on foam marking kits, which I believe would probably be the best thing, but without having a boom there is nothing to attach it to. I thought about making a "boom" out of a 2x2 or something to use a foam kit but before I do that I would like to see what everyone else uses and/or ideas you may have. Thanks in advance!

I was going to suggest the dye but you already tried it. I also found that it's not very visible on the plants, but thought that was just the way I was using it.

Could you put a can of marker paint on a boom and use a cord to activate it periodically?

Just a thought, back when I was doing powerline R/W spraying one of the guys had what he called "amber vision" sunglasses which he claimed allowed him to see the change in sprayed trees immediately. They were just over the counter standard sunglasses, so it might be worth trying.
