I'd like to mount a small 12 volt broadcast spreader to the front of my little NH. I'm not worried about the mounting aspect, but I'm wondering if anyone's got experience with this type of spreader? Also, being that my tractor is quite a bit longer than an ATV, I'm wondering if the control will reach back to where I'm sitting? Lastly, has anyone on here used these spreaders for salt or sand? This is the type of spreader I'm taking about:

Amazon.com : Buyers ATVS1 1-Pound 12-Volt Electric ATV Broadcast Spreader with Rain Cover : Lawn And Garden Spreaders : Garden & Outdoor

I know a three point PTO unit would be better, but if I do it this way, I can leave my back blade mounted, plus it's a lot cheaper. I'm not trying to do a whole parking lot, just a few nasty spots in my driveway.

I'm glad you started this thread...I was about ready to do the same thing...same reason.

I'm thinking about this one:
Amazon.com : Agri-Fab 45-463 13-Pound Tow Behind Broadcast Spreader : Lawn And Garden Spreaders : Garden & Outdoor

I've got a snow blower on the 3PH...also, considering it's just going to be areas on my walks and driveway, I don't want to spend several hundred dollars

The one thing I do see about these spreaders is without an auger to break up the salt or sand, they'll clog pretty easily. At least, I think they might...

Tried an ATV spreader with salt;corroded the aluminum parts quickly. That was my first one;second one has all plastic(adjustment plate+impeller).I don't use this one for salt but think it would be o.k.
Electrical should be no problem;may have to lengthen some wires, they come with a switch.

I've never used one that size, but the couple of pull behind spreaders I've used in the past were a real pain in the *****. They had a hard time getting enough traction to turn the gears. Ymmv, but that's the experience I had with them.

How much are you planning on doing? 100 lbs isn't a lot of sand, my guess is 5 gallons or so. If you have small area and don't mind mixing in lots of salt it might work. Just remember that seed and fertilizer they are designed to work with are a lot lighter than sand.

I have a Herd 750s spreader/ sander. It holds about a dozen 5 gallon sheet rock buckets worth of sand. You'd be surprised just how quickly it empties out. Even with it's agitator inside the hopper gravel tends to get frozen inside. If I'm doing a small spot I just fill a bucket up and spread it by hand, it's easier, quicker, and more precise.

Atv spreaders are rated for 50#.

The spreader will have a differential type of device that was designed for easy turning however it then only has one wheel at a time providing spin action.
You would have to open that `gear box` and `lock` the differential for good traction from both wheels at a time.
Since you are using in winter conditions skidding a tire on snow/ice during a turn won't cause excessive tire wear.

As to the auger to break up clumps that is easy to simply add a rod or blade.

Had similar unit but walk behind type that I modified for dual traction and it worked really well.
The preferred abrasive was small crushed stone rather than sand as sand tends to clump if in the least bit wet.

And yes I really found it to be a good 'tool'.
I have a steep drive and without abrasive it was often a 'no go'.
I would walk only one pass with the spreader and the job was done. (I did need strap on traction on my boots).

Now I could have pulled with tractor but that meant removing the blower but I'm lazy.

we just installed a reese hitch mounted curtis spreader on the back of a 1025R,
the lower lift arms could stay, we had to remove the top link and tool box,
the customer wanted to shorten up his overall length with the blower and
spreader on, and the 3ph spreaders were substantially longer than doing it
this way. we ordered in the Omni hitch for the tractor.
and this is 12v, so no pto required for this spreader.

Hello,
I know you posted this topic quite a long time ago but if you see this can you tell me what model of Curtis Spreader you use for this mod.
Thank you
