I just put together a new 284 (dated 1/2005 on fender). There is a "L" shaped bracket that has a thin metall formed up piece (which I assume holds the mini tool box). It appears to bolt to the ROPS/fender connection. The fender already has this toolbox mount spot welded on it. Is this extra or am I missing something.

Also there is a hard hydraulic line coming from what I think is the 3-point hitch speed control that runs to the rear with a quick disconnect. Does this have a distinct purpose other than used for a rear remote return line?

THere is nothing that appears to be a battery hold-down bracket. Its no problem to fit a universal but I just want to be sure I am not confused (its the new type where the battery is below the radiator).

Hey Hagar,

I got my little 224 allready assembled and there was not a battery hold down on mine either, also there wasn't a rubber shield insulating the positive battery cable & post from the chassis. So I went by Advance Auto and got a pair of rubber Positive and Negative cable and post covers, so that just in case the battery does get bumped up to make contact with the chassis, then fireworks or electrical damage will not occur.

Have a nice day,
Joe

Hagar, I have no idea about the spare part but do know what the hydraulic fitting is for. Its an auxillary port. Don't confuse it with remotes as its not. It is pressure and return at same time. Confusing? I know.
When using the 3 point hitch if you put lever to raise and when 3 point arms reach full raise that port now has pressure at that quick disconnect. When you go to lower pressure drops and that line becomes a fluid return to resevoir.
One use for it is a dump cart that uses a single acting cylinder to raise and then gravity is the down action. (much like a snow plow set-up). When you raise 3 pt lever the dump cart will raise and when you put lever to 3 pt down the port becomes return and dump cart lowers.
I guess you could find other uses for that post but I think you would have to run an extra return line to resevoir.
I hope I explained this okay as it can be confusing.

Actually I think I get it. I used to have an 8n that I plumbed a loader (single acting, trip bucket) that way. I locked the three point arms to the draw bar with a big honking log/stump. The used the three point control to raise and lower the bucket.

Thanks but a little disappointed.

That bracket should be for the tool box. It does have a smaller flange welded on it it correct?

I haven't seen any of the brackets welded to the fender. Perhaps your bracket was packed with the tractor by the same guy who adds the second set of fender handles : )

I don't know what that second set of handles is for but most people seem to get them with the crate tractors.
