Ariens YT12 Transaxle?

I just obtained one of these mowers for short money, but the guy
I'm having tune the thing up (needs new fuel hose, blade sharpened,
throttle cable fix) says "Don't tow anything with it, if you bust the transaxle
the whole thing is junk.". I'm guessing they don't make an equivalent replacement part (It's basically 3 spd plus reverse, I think, with
2 speed ranges) Just wondering if anyone else has experience with
this lawn tractor. It seems relatively robust for what it is.

Ariens has a pretty good parts breakdown on their website. It rivals the parts website of John Deere. I looked at several of the yt12 models rear axles and they list parts. Might be like John Deere and not be within your price range, but they do list parts. There are several dealers right around me, so they must be more available than I would have guessed.
Adapting another rear end from some other used mower with a bad engine might be another way to go if you break something. Or you could just do as advised and not pull anything with it except weeds.
