No, I am not color blind as long as it's GREEN.

Just kidding I have had Fords, Farmall, and now John Deere. All have been good tractors. The John Deere is the first new tractor that I have ever purchased.

A tractor dealer told me there are no tractors under 65 hp made in the USA anymore. They abandoned small and less profitable tractors and decided to just rebadge imports and paint them their color.

Worked out real well for the car companies didn't it.

I guess it depends on your definition of "made". There is likely not a tractor of any size for which all components are made in USA. Some however, like the JD 3000 and 4000 series, are assembled in the USA from foriegn and domestic components. With a stretch, you might be able to pass off the 3000 series as a "rebaged foriegn" because of the Yanmar powerplants, but the 4000 series run the JD powertech engines so your argument holds almost no water at all there. I just do the best I can, keeping things as American as possible, starting with the corporation's base of operations, which for JD only, has never been anywhere but the good old USA. I sleep good at night knowing that I run nothing but iron that is as close to American as I can get, and like I said it has never let me down, spec'd out better than the closest (2) foreign rivals, and was no more expensive. Kind of makes it a no-brainer for me.

Wolc - I didn't mean to come off sounding like an old curmudgeon (which I probably am). I own an imported compact and it's probably my favorite of all the tractors that I ever had. The point is that our American manufacturers are capable of making the best tractors in the world - they do so every day - but not in the compact tractor size. I think they ignore manufacturing in the compact tractor market at their peril.

We used to make an amazing array of tough little subcuts & cuts. Everything from Cubs, farmalls, JD garden tractors, etc.

I think the difference today is that they now have small foreign diesels, 4 wheel drive and better FELs to make them much more versatile.
