Consider a brand that offers service near you.

From there look for something with power steering, canopy with wind shield and perhaps doors or nets.

John Deere is known for high quality and longevity

Kubota RTVs have the same HST transmissions as Kubota BX tractors. Kubota RTVs are workers.
Dad probably won't want to go faster than 25-mph anyhow.

I have a gas, 15.8 horsepower, HST Kubota RTV500. $10,000 new.
1,000 engine hours, one minor problem with contaminated gas.
RTV500 has a manual dump bed, not power. I use the bed for tools, a trailer for loads.

Most utility vehicles record engine hours but not miles.

Buying used the key factor is prudence of first owner. Prudence in operation. Prudence with maintenance.

I suggest a used Kubota RTV 900 or X900. Very common to see older models with 4,000 hrs. If they've had any sort of regular maintenance you can't wear them out. Hydraulic dump bed, 4wd with rear locker. Open station models are pretty easy to get in/out of.

I bought a 900 with 400hrs for $5500. I'm stuck with it the rest of my life cause I certainly can't wear it out.

Whatever you choose it should have a hydraulic dump bed for his uses.

A friend (farmer) has a John Deere 825i with 13,000 miles! I would look more at condition than miles.

I sometimes look at the Odometer and Hour meter on my 2000 Diesel mule (bought new) and wonder the same thing. Probably actually neither, but more the kind of use it had. Hours mean less to a Diesel as well. I'm guessing miles are worse for all the drivetrain wear and that is expensive. Heck, ANY repairs on these things are expensive.

Using BOUT you can get average MPH. That will tell you I'd someone was just puttering around, or running top speed most of the time.

But neither is really as important as condition and care
