I saw an ad for a brand new Mahindra 65hp diesel 4x4 hydrostat for less than $25k

Are these from China?

I was reluctant to ask in the Mahindra category for fear that owners would be biased.

I don't know anything about them except they look really cool and are cheap. I only own Ford and Yanmar.

Thanks! Dennis

Dennis , I think You'll find Mahindra's to be a very decently built machine . Their parent company is from India .
Go ahead and ask all the questions you want on the Mahindra forum . You'll get an honest answer to your questions .

Rural King has a 65hp diesel 4X4 tractor for $12,900. I've asked several people, and nobody seems to know exactly who makes them. One of the Rural King employees suggested that he thought Mahindra did. It was a heavy built tractor with power beyond and front weights. It wasn't an HST tractor, but if it is basically the same for $12,000 less, it may be worth looking at.

Mahindra doesn't make or sell a 65HP hydro, they are either gear or shuttle when you get over 35HP.

None of the Mahindra's are made in China. The "00" and "20" series are built in India, the "10" series is built in S. Korea, and the "15" series is built in Japan by Mitsubishi. If any of you can go look at a 7520 Mahindra, then you will see the latest from India, and you will be impressed with the quality. It isn't just good from the perspective that it is built in India, it is good by any standards.

I'm a Mahindra dealer, so I suppose I am biased, so I will leave it at that for now.

I didn't realize that Mahindra tractors were made in different places. All I had heard was that in India, they are the "Lexus" of tractors. Here is a website of a tractor company in India that sells a brand new diesel tractor for what translates to $2138! http://www.rediff.com/money/2004/aug/26tractor.htm

I can't say that I've really heard good things about this company or that they are wanting to challange Mahindra in India. If you go to that website, you'll see that it doesn't really look like an impressive unit. I suppose that somebody will take the franchise here in the U.S. and start importing them. I just wouldn't want to be one of the first buyers. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whaaaaa.........???? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm about the most color blind guy here, until it comes to greenbacks. I like that color a lot.

So far I like mine. For the money it beats the big three IMHO. Mahindra has been making tractors for about 40 years now so they should have a decent idea about what they are doing. It was IH that went to Mahindra to start a AG division. They are the second, maybe third largest tractor manufacturer in the world so its a good bet that they are going to be around for a bit.

When you look on the Mahindra fourm there are a few guys that are having problems with their machines. Of course, if you go to the Deere forum, there are a few guys having problems with their machines, and Kubota, and NH, and...... Thats something I looked at before I bought mine.

Dealer made a big difference to me.

Mahindra makes a fine tractor. So does Kioti, MF, the big 3. Come to think of it, the only tractors that are 'different' are the chinese made units. The biggest 'difference' is in features. The chinese units are going to be similar, feature wise, to '60-'70 tractors. Lots of gears and leavers with a high step thru.

Anyway, enough rambling and get to the point. Shop all the dealers around you. Eleminate any dealers you are uncomfortable with. Pick a tractor from a dealer you are happy with and buy it.

You have posted your disapointment in Yanmars/Grays. That should show you how important your dealer is.

PS, tell us what your uses are for some specific recomendations.

Dang.. that's 'scary' cheap. Anyone near a rural king who can stop in and grab a name off the engine? With that.. we may be able to track down a manufacturer.

Hey guys.. this is that tractor Dargo that is featured in the link from Dargo. Wow.. reading the text, looks like they are targeting the farmers still working with 'yak' power.

It actually kind of reminds me of some of the early domestic designs.

One thing that caught my eye, was the big metal guard on the right side of the tractor.. I can't help but think this is a belt or chain guard... As in the power plant doesn't direct 'shaft' couple with the drivetrain.. very interesting.. Any comments?
