Apple Orchard 1, \"Oil Away\" Dormant Spray 0

So, The apple trees are at green bud this weekend. Suited up, goggles, respirator, tyvek jumpsuit with hood. Carefully measured 2 2/3 cup of Oil Away, shook it well with some starter water, added it to four-gallon backpack sprayer. Sprayed four trees before backpack was empty. Well, kind of empty. The Oil Away separated from the water immediately, and there was 2 1/4 cups of Oil Away at the bottom of the backpack.

Oil Away is advertised as not needing shaking to keep it in suspension. What did I do wrong? I need help pretty quick on this one - I'm quickly moving out of the right stage to minimize damage to the "crop."

Thanks,

Jim

Re: Apple Orchard 1,

Jim,
I have used oil away in the past without any problems. gardens Alive did have trouble with it falling out of suspension but that was back in 1998.

Anyway, you can add a squirt of liquid dish washing soap and it should allow the oil and water to form an emulsion. Oil Away is simply some sort veggie oil with a sufactant like sodium laural sulfate added. So you can add more surfactant via some dish soap. And it won't hurt the trees.
