Years ago I rode with a guy from a local farm co-op that we employed to kill off a weedy meadow so the local conservancy could seed it with native grasses.

He drove the vehicle around the perimeter, entered the boom width, hit 'start' and as he drove the app tracked his progress spraying by coloring inside the perimeter.

I was hoping to find something like this for an iPhone but all my searches haven't turned up much.

Any insight? I want to fert my pasture and keep track of progress using something like this. A poor man's version of what the big farmers use.

Thank you. Exactly what I'm looking for. Wish it ran on iOS.

Hey did you ever try one? I would like to find some sort of simple app also for my iPhone. I just sprayed about 20 acres in different pastures/fields etc and while I did decent, I definitely missed some.

Mine is for hay fields and horse pastures. I posted on a farm FB page and they mentioned dye and foam also but I’ve never used either nor know if either would have no grazing restrictions for horses.

If using dish soap, try about 1 gallon of water to 1/4 cup of hand dish soap.

It has been about three or four years since did this research. The issue is the accuracy of the iPhone or other phone's gps system it. For driving 20 or so feet is decent but for spraying it needs to be inches. Check on optional antenna for your phone also. Not sure the current pricing on those pricing but sure over a thousand but if doing much spraying worth it. Messick's use to offer some very good units for decent pricing.

Will the IPhone give good speed data and accurate enough data for broadcast spreading?

I never tried using mine for ground speed as tractor had digital speedometer on it. But most likely it will. If not mistaken have a friend who does with his New Holland.

Back to price of foam markers to GPS was shocked to learn how costly a foam system can be. Have never used one, have never seen them used much in my area. If you are spraying or spreading in one or two fields the lowest price way is to measure and put markers at each end for the tractor to line up on. One person told me he used cans upside down over the fence post at the ends of his fields. If you have trees at each end you can tie surveyors tape to the tree or limbs. Could do the same with a fence. When I was growing row crops I just counted the rows. Since I slowed to make the turn back into the field it was easy.

Foam won't hurt your horses. It's just a mild soap / water solution.

I mounted a Crop Care brand 2.5 gallon system to my spray rig (Fimco PTO 12 foot boom / 60 gallon). Sorry this is the only pic I had on my phone. I had a buddy weld up a bracket to mount it on top of the tank.

I have mine calibrated to put out 10 gallons per acre so full load covers 6 acres. I grew up running spray machines back before GPS so I am used to running off the foam markers. Works great spraying pastures.
