I'm coming up on my Hydro fluid service. I see Summit Racing has a great deal on 2.5 gallons of Mobil 424 for $32 after a $5 rebate. I'm thinking of grabbing 3 containers? I understand it's good stuff? Any Comments?

I use it in my L3800 HST no problems at all .....

It's the only tractor hydraulic fluid that I use. Probably have 6 or 7 buckets in the shop.

Check with your local Exxon-Mobil supplier. That's where I buy mine. I think it's right around $50 for 5 gallons.

currently have traveller premium universal in one, and Mobil 424 in the other dk45se The 424 is noticeably better in sub freezing temperatures. While the Traveller is acceptable, as seen in an oil analysis I have after 400hrs on that fluid. I'll be interested to see what the 424 looks like after same hours. Ill be switching over one of the units to SUDT 2 this summer, and will do an analysis on this as well, after another 400hrs.

I think 424 is a great fluid based off the data sheet, what people are saying here, and my own experience. $65 for 5 gallons of 424 is a great deal.

I bought this as well, the free shipping on that quantity was great. I never checked any local Mobil distributors as suggested.

Are you going use in your front axle as well? My dealer said mine was filled with gear oil, so I stayed with that, but would be nice to stock only a single fluid.

I believe they come with Hyd/Trans fluid, but I don't replace with it, I use 90+ Synthetic gear oil, just more comfortable using that......

I used 424 for a number of years in my Kioti. It worked well. On the last change I switched over to SUDT2. I believe it is slightly better in the cold winter time. But 424 is good.

First Mobil 424 has a great reputation, I recently found a local supplier that has decent pricing and will likely switch to it in the future.

But my question is why many on here think gear oil in the front axle is necessary over the UTF almost universally recommended by manufacturers? If it is good enough to lubricate the transmission and rear end gears, why would it not be acceptable in a front axle which likely has less stress and likewise much simpler lubrication requirements?

I often see people saying use products which meet manufacturers spec but ignore their recommendation of UTF in the front axle in lieu of gear oil. I have used the UTF in my front axles just like what the manufacturer recommends with never a problem.
