I saw an article on this in the current issue of Countryside Magazine and it sounds like a bit of hocus pocus (flyfright.com). Has anyone tried it yet?

Jim, I just made it a clickable link; hope that's OK with you.

Ahah...another Floridian being pestered by flies, eh? I have no less than sixteen million on my back porch right now. I like the idea of driving them away a lot better than baiting them in with poison. I am waiting with bated breath for an answer as well.

Save your money. I've seen this thousands of times. It appears to work. All the charter boat docks use it around here and if any place draws flies it's the cleaning tables at those docks. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

All you have to do is take a heavy duty clear plastic bag (Ziploc, Glad, Hefty or whatever you like) fill it with water, tie a string around it, hang it close to where you're going to be.

Charging 7.95 for a plastic bag seems a bit of a stretch. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

And it does not appear to give much bang for the buck. It only lasts 15-20 days and it only covers a 10x10 area. A fellow could end up spending a lot of money trying to maintain coverage for an area of any size.

Dang ya'll just burst my bubble. I have this theory that if I can keep 'em off the porch I can keep 'em outa the house. I tried the other bags thingies that collect the flies and they smell bad and they draw them in. I don't want to draw them in I want to run them off.

If it works. And it is just a plastic bag filled with water. How about hanging the bag in the house? Wouldn't that keep the flies out?

Yes, and the people too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Am I missing something on this? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This is a clear plastic bag (ziplock), half filled with ordinary tap water and then sealed up tight. It is then hung from a thread. It emits no odor. Nor does it trap any flies, thereby creating odor or any kind of mess in that fashion. It is basically a big clear water balloon. I am assuming it looses effectiveness due to algae build up, but that could be corrected by replacing the bag every few days.

Why would it chase people away? And will it work on my in-laws? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It does work on inlaws/ outlaws......But you place the bag over their head then add water......

Lmao Steve! No I was referring to the bait kind. You also fill those with water and then hang them up. They have a very foul odor. The flies are attracted to that scent and they fly in, UP. A fly cannot fly down, through a hole so they are stuck in there. So after a few weeks you have an extremely horrible smelling bag of stink with a few thousand fly carcasses in it.

I wonder if you could use an ordinary zip lock bag to test this new fly thing.

As it pertains to flies or inlaws?

Actually, I intend to hang a couple out by the goats. Chickens eat flies, so I won't bother testing with them. The goats might appreciate it though, they're not crazy about all of the inlaws either.
