I like the unit specs but I am curious about the total unit weight ( 630# ) Other makes seem to be a bit heavier and have a lighter flywheel. This is taken from what I read on line. Can anyone who has used one of these machines give a product report on features, problems, service, and if they have the assisted feed system ? Can't find a retail price of the unit either. One place I spoke with can get them but does not stock a unit. No prior owners in the area that we are aware of. Thanks jr

I've had the chipper for 2 years. Happy with it. Use it mostly for soft woods in the 3 to 4 inch range occasionally a 5 to 6 inch. Hardwood branches are no problem. Rotted wood birch etc. are the hardest to chip. The unit tends to grab into the log and the B3030 does not have the hp to "swallow" it. I have adjusted the chip width to deal with this. Feeding is not a problem.

Easy to sharpen. Remove one bolt and the top is hinged and swings open. Care in feeding green along with dry branches and the unit does not seem to need to be sharpened frequently. Blades can be reversed to double the time between sharpening. Not sure of the weight but not a problem on this tractor. I think I paid around 2300 or 2400 for the unit when I bought the tractor. They ship with the unit painted the standard orange, blue or green color to match the tractor. Hydraulic feed was substantially more. Dealer convienced me I didn't need it. I have about 35 to 40 hours on the chipper.

I've had mine for almost a year and it has worked fine for me. I forget the price but I think it was around three grand. No need for a hydraulic feed, its self feeding and works very well. Frankly I thought the flywheel would be heavier. I was under the impression that for a chipper to work well it needed a heavy flywheel for momentum:confused: .

Do a search for chippers to find out more info.

I own a Wallenstein BX42 which is the next smaller size chipper (up to 4" diameter). No hydraulics. It weighs about 400lbs and the flywheel alone is 135lbs with four reversible blades. The flywheel is one of the heavier ones I've come across in this size chipper. It has chipped everything I've thrown at it, including hickory and oak. It has no problem with green wood that is covered with leaves or pine needles or with dry, aged hardwoods.

One feature I like is the adjustable strike plate. The knives are set in a fixed position on the flywheel. To adjust the depth of cut, there is a strike plate that can be easily adjusted from the outside of the chipper.

On a few rare occasions, I have stalled out the tractor if a thick piece of wood gets wedged against the blade. When that happens, I check the depth of cut and set it a little more shallow. Bear in mind that I have a 20HP tractor. I don't know anything about the TC45D or JD4110 but I'm guessing these are in the 40+ HP range. I doubt you'll bog them down with a 6" chipper.

Before the Wallenstein, I had a 9HP DR Chipper and it is a mere toy compared to the BX42. These things are beasts! :D

Almost forgot the most important part! I paid $1,995 for the BX42. Worth every penny! As you can see, even my wife likes to use it.

Greg,
Thanks for the pics and the info. That's is exactly what I'm looking for. I'll search around and find the closest dealer.

Ditto RPK.. on my way to the Kubota dealer in the AM. Took the week off and got to see how quick I can get a shipping container on the property and a tractor delivered. The dealer is 5 minutes from the property, going to see if the salesman is willing to take a drive over and see what he thinks I will need in the way of HP.

I'll ask them about the chipper while I am there. The toy we have already spoken about is a grapple on a bucket, got to see how much a grapple WITHOUT the bucket will be. The bucket will just pick up dirt and make more work for me.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like the unit I need. Now to find a stocking dealer before summer passes. It must be built a bit stronger than the Jinma. No complaints on operation or rebuilding to make it function correctly.
