Anyone on the South Beach Diet? If so, how long have you been on the diet and how much have you lost? If you have been on the diet for a long time have you kept the weight off? Thinking of going on the diet and with most diets they are hard to stay on for a very long time. I love my carbs, I do not know if I can give them up forever!

Diets don't work. I have been on a number but always slip back into old eating habits. Right now I eat just about anything but control the amount which seems to work the best. Change to healthy food and just watch the amount, I keep telling my wife that its a small handfull of veggies and a small handfull of potatoes (rice or pasta) as well as small portion of meat. We also really watch the processed foods we eat, we like fruit and veggies better.

So far so good. Still a little overweight but yearly check up was great.

Much easier controlling the portion size than a fancy diet.

Good luck.

About 7 weeks ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. My wife has had me on what amounts to the SB Diet ever since. It's really not all that bad and it's pretty easy to live with. It's really helped with my blood glucose level. In the last 7 weeks I've lost about 12 pounds and feel a lot better for it. You do have to give up most of those carbs though, mainly potatoes and bread or use them in very limited quantities.

I tell my wife that I used to dream at night about chasing her along some tropical beach but now I dream about chasing some McDonald's french fries, screaming "Super size it, super size it". She didn't think that was all that funny but like you I did love those carbs.

Try it, it works and it's not too painful. It's really more about changing your eating habits than depriving yourself for the rest of your life.

My dad has diabetes. Not bad but does take pills every day along with checking himself a couple of times a day for his levels. He went on the South Beech diet and the doctor told him to quit taking his medicine. The doctor was very happy about the results. Since my dad has diabetes I have been watching myself also and I go on and off of the atkins. Last time in my cholestrol was 152 and my glucose was way down. Doc was very happy with me also.

A fellow I work with was diagnosed with diabetes and his doctor recommended the Weight Watchers Plan. The doctor told his ist is a very good plan for diabetes. He has been doing that and looks very good. He definitely has lost off his waist.:)

Good luck with your diet!

I've been on the Adkins/south Beach diet for about 2 years now. Dropped from 250 to 208l lbs at last weigh-in.

I don't weigh often... just when I take my folks to the Dr. for monthly follow-ups.

I kinda do my own version of the low/no carb diet. It is important to really, really cut back on carbs for 1st 2 weeks. There are books you can read about why. I've dropped white potatoes, white bread, white sugar and sugar stuff. Fortunately, Splenda, although expensive, is extremely acceptable to me in iced tea, etc. I had to give up regular cokes, but now there are versions with Splenda in them...

I've found it relatively easy to follow... I get to eat meat, cheese, eggs, bacon, BBQ, salads, stuff I really like... Fortunately, I don't have health issues complicating things. I've found that truly, the carbs cause me to be hungry now... so that's a signal that whatever I ate recently was "over" the carb limit for me.

I think it's a personal metabolism thing... but it is the first diet that I've been able to stick to, not be hungry, and lose weight, slowly over time and keep it off.

I went on the Atkins diet about two years ago and lost 25 lbs. in four months. Went from 166 to 141. I now eat a balanced diet but keep the carbs down at the lower end. I have gone up to 150, but that still is better than 166 for me.
