Has anyone actually made the switch, either up or down, from the largest X series tractor to the 2320? I recently bought a home on 5 acres, about 2 of which are lawn and landscaping. We were able to include the X575 and all its attachments including the 62" belly mower, 519 catcher, loader, snowblower, sprayers, etc. This tractor has the rear 3pt and PTO. The previous owner mentioned it took 3 hours to mow, which seems like a lot given the size of the tractor.

I am interested in moving a bit of dirt around as well, all of it is sandy soil. i have plans for a new driveway approach, leveling a portion of the gently sloped yard, installing patios, terracing and decking and building another garage. How effective is the 575 at moving dirt for these projects?

Lastly, would the 2320 with the diesel mow much faster in addition to it's ability to move more material?

I have looked at the specs for the tractors so I understand them. What I need is some real world comparison of the ability of the two tractors to do what I want. The local dealer has not been a well spring of information.

Thanks for your time.

RHW,

A 62" deck should be able to cut 2 acres in a little over an hour (depending on the terrain and obstacles). The previous owner may have gone slowly. He also had a bunch of chin-yang in that 575. Can we ask what you paid for it? As for the diesel powerplants handling the 62" deck better, I would say yes. To me, and there are going to be others that disagree, the 62" deck is a little big for that 23 hp Kawasaki, especially if the grass gets away from you or is wet. The big difference the 2320 would have is the ability to handle full-size 3PH implements (put a 50" tiller on the X and you'll know what I mean), and the FEL will operate with much more capacity and speed. Not only that, the turn-signal stalks compared to the joy-stick on the CUTs are almost toy-like (though they do work). The other factor in favor of the 2320 is the ability to get more power to the ground through its larger chassis.

As an alternative, you should also look at the 2305. It is a few thousand less than the 2320 and has some plusses and some minuses.

I moved from a 485 to a 4110, predecessor to a 2320. Had issues with cold weather starts on the gas F.I. Diesel (with block and tranny warmer) has started & ran flawlessly. Now if they could just make no-stink diesel fuel…..

As mentioned above, 3 point, FEL and hydraulic performance of 2320 are a big step up from the old X series. Lots of ground clearance, no transmission fans/filters hanging out down below. Of course if you don’t need the clearance (you operate primarily on smooth surfaces without a lot of sticks, rock and whatnots sticking up) it justs add to a higher center of gravity.

Of course its longer and taller (more storage space) and heavier to transport. If you load the tires, a 7700lb trailer and tow vehicle might be in the cards.

X series was hard to work on. Blew out a hydraulic hose fitting and had to partially disassembly the entire tractor to get to it. CUT is a lot less compact---things are a lot more accessible.

Can’t overstate enough how much easier life is (and how much better my back feels) having a FEL around. And skidding trees is almost fun. Good luck

Ahhh... but I love the smell of diesel in the morning. Actually I prefer it to any other exhaust... except perhaps wood smoke in winter. Diesel reminds me of big engines, jet aircraft, ships at sea... good hard work. And I think you'll love the 2320... I cut 3-4 acres in about 2-3 hours, going slow in spots for slopes, etc.

I was struggling between the X and the 2320 for a long time. I finally settled on the X744, mostly because of the diesel, the big deck, the big bagger and the AWS. I mostly mow several acres a lot and wanted a machine that could handle the task well. I got the 3 point hitch and the rear PTO because I wanted to spread fertilizer, run a log splitter, generator and a chipper. I also got a Johnny Bucket Sr. for it. I can move a mountain of bark mulch and spread it out, regrade my gravel driveway, and took out some rotted raised landscape beds. I made a pretty impressive pile of loam even with my Johnny Bucket because I ramped up the pile just like i do at work with a front-end loader. I happen to like the 'turn-style' controls for the hydraulics. It is just like the twin stick caterpillar loader I used to operate. Plus it is out of the way, no accidental bumping it even when my...I shouldn't say this...kid is riding on my lap. The 2320 seemed a little narrow and top-heavy for some of the slopes i have to negotiate, and the turning radius was way too big for my liking, and i didn't want to load the tires for fear of rutting up my lawn. I also did not like the newer style mower deck on the 2320, the gauge wheels looked like they would dig in because they are narrow and won't always stay straight. I guess i prefer the X744 extreme comfort and ergonomics overall. I can stretch my legs out, tilt the wheel, and the machine is like a caddy. It has a bigger gas tank in a easy to fill location which meant a lot to me too. If you're worried about mowing times, don't let the grass get too long. Usually an acre might take 45 min. depending on how many obstacles, how fussy and neat you want to be.
