Can someone tell me what year my tractor is?

I have never had a NH tractor, but you can usually find the year
by looking on the wheels for the embossed manufacturing date.
The tractor year is likely that year or one year later. Lacking that,
there is a date on the tires, too, for a low hour machine.

Here is my TC35 question: does your tractor have all steel or iron
rear final drive and axle housings? Or is aluminum used in any part
of it?

3H28D - That unit number looks like a date code.

3 = Year
H = August (8th letter of the alphabet)
28D = 28th Day of the month

If it's not, it sure is a coincidence.

Last night I remembered that when I was looking at the tractor, I asked the dealer what year it was. He bent down and looked at the identification plate for a few seconds and said 2004. Either he already knew, was BSing me or it is actually encoded in one of the numbers on the plate.

So it would seem you are correct and the unit number contains the date of manufacture.

Jinman has the answer. The unit code fixes the manufacturing date.

M is the 13th letter in the alphabet. The wheels are stamped August or Sept of '06 and the battery has Nov or December tabs peeled off and 2006 year tab peeled off. I bought the tractor in June 07.
Does NH skip one month in the alphabet for some reason?

The letter I is skipped so as not to be confused with the number 1.
Back in the days when serial numbers were hand stamped into Ford transmission castings, Henry wouldn't buy a number 1 stamp, so the poor guys in the factory had to use the letter I instead. Apparently there was lasting psychological damage.........
