A bud has these two and doesn't know where they came from or what they're called. One is marked "1/4" and the other "1/2". No names, but the 1/2" link has a stylized "A" and a symbol that looks a bit like the Swiss cross. They're handy to use as light duty no-snag clevises.

They twist open on the middle pivot? Interesting. Never seen one before. Hope you find out what it is. How long are they?

I spent a lot of time googling before presenting it to the brain trust here. My hope is that someone here has some familiarity with them.

Yes sir. They simply twist so the overlapped pieces allow it to catch a chain link, loop in a small cable or rope, etc. The small one will catch 1/4" chain and the larger one will do 1/2".

The smaller one is maybe 1-1/2" overall.

Looks like by opening them up you can connect 2 chains together for making a temporary longer chain. Similar to a single link (pictured) but reusable.

Not seen one in years but they seemed very common when I was young.....they're used to repair or join chain(s).

local menards, they have a chain isle up near the front, near the check out desks, that's were they would be, not a clue what the name of them are. just know were they are.

i am not a fan for type of fastener that they are, but they do have there uses. but heck if i know what they are used for, that does not cause them to bend out of shape, and come un-done. granted i was most likely abusing the fastener way past its limits, but "whistles innocently*
