Anyone know much about the JD 2040?

Our association has a JD 2040, we think its a 1982, loader, 4WD, 3 cylinder diesel, ags, with beat up sheet metal. We want to get rid of it. Ballpark figure if mechanically its in good shape but looks kind of lousy. Can you even buy metal for something like this anymore? Thanks, Mark

The 2040 is a much improved version of the worst tractor Deere ever made. The original/earlier 2010/2020 tractors (also including the slightly smaller 1010/1020) have the absolute worst reputation. The value is in the $7-11,000 range depending on looks, mechanical condition, and hours. Cosmetic defects detract from the saleability of the tractor. Pretty sells. High hours without receipts of major work are a turn off too. Non functioning or broken parts will also hurt value. I don't want to try and give a value for your particular tractor without seeing and operating it, but if your honest/realistic about it's good and bad points, you should be able to figure out a fair value for it.
