I saw a Sitrex chisel plow the other day and it looked pretty good. Anyone know about pricing, quality, parts, etc.?

I purchased a tow behind fertilizer spreader and after 3 years of use, it was so badly rusted that it literally fell apart. The quality of the steel that they use is poor to say the least. They also use powder coat, which holds in the moisture to allow the steel to rust. If it were paint, it would just chip, but the powder coat when it chips just falls away from the metal and allows the moisture to get trapped under the remain powder coat. Overall, I would suggest that you consider another brand. Others might have had good luck with their Sitrex items, but I haven't. Around this neck of the US, I haven't heard much in the way of good things about the product.

I have a 6' sitrex rear finish mower and have had zero problems with it in the 3 years I have owned and operated it. I finish mow 9 acres on a regular basis. Total acres mowed is probably over 300 acres and I have yet had to even adjust the belt! The paint is in great shape and no rust what so ever. I would buy one again in a minute. Not sure about the paint issues on a ground breaking equipment. Do a search for sitrex on the net and you will get a lot of feedback from other sitrex equipment folks. I would rank the mechanical quality with woods any day of the week. I paid $1200.00 for it new 3 years ago and it came with pto shaft. Can't beat the price. I ordered a set of gator blades for it and emailed sitrex and they sent me a free pdf parts manual and owners manual (I lost mine) with all the parts breakdowns etc. Great folks to deal with.

Hope this helps,

Mark

i have the sitrex 9 shank tiller. It really is NOT a chisel plow. True chisel plow is huge, penetrates deep, and is extremely heavy. Some have guide wheels.

Anyway, my sitrex impresses me with it's design, strength, versatility (has both cat 1 and cat 2 pins, built tough enough for the cat 2).

I have been to many farm equipment sales. My sitrex "chisel plow" with the coil springs on each point, is built tougher than any other used old plow I have seen. Mine has shiny hard enamel paint, not powder coat. It has a metal plate describing what it is. the bolts holding it together are gold/anodized or whatever that is, and they are still shiny.

Bottom line, I would not sell if if you offered me what I paid. There you go. And my 70 year old farmer neighbor asked to borrow it...haha.

oh yeah, 2 years left outside in elements, still shiny red!

Thanks for all your replies. I appreciate all the help.
Andrew, it looked to me like a small chisel plow. What does Sitrex call it? How are you using it, and finally how much was it? They are asking 1000 for a new one.

I bought a new Sitrex 5' finish mower about 4 or 5 months ago. Do a search on here about a Sitrex mower problem and look for a thread by me, "Travis R". It will have "SITREX" in the title of it somewhere.

Anyway, mine is not powder coated. It is a shiny red. It has never been covered up- except when its attached to the tractor under the lean-to. I gave $1200 (bought it with tractor purchase).

At first, I didn't really like it (a couple small issues). But after i've been using it, (and with issues solved) i've since changed my mind. I have hit numerous roots in the yard on accident. It still cuts very good. I have gotten several very good comments on how it cuts. It honestly does a good job. Just as good, if not better, than the 'name' brands.
So far, I would recommend one to others. But I can not comment on other Sitrex implements because I have no experience with them.

used for primary tillage on already plowed land. if you haven't bottom plowed , harrowed, etc. in years past, don't bother, you may be dissappointed. But it you are working recent farmland, it may be ok. It is the original tiller before mech. tillers came out. it just stirs the top several inches of soil around.

Yeah, I would definitely bottom plow any new land, hopefully the "chisel" would take over in future years. Do you think $1000 seems reasonable?
