Here's the RSA that deals with it.
CHAPTER 261
CERTIFICATES OF TITLE AND REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES
Number Plates
Section 261:82
261:82 Agricultural Plates.
I. A truck, truck-tractor or tractor shall qualify for agricultural registration rates and number plates and shall be driven with such registration only within a 20 mile radius from the main entrance to the farm upon which said vehicle is driven, and may be used for the following purposes:
(a) Transportation of agricultural products for delivery to storage or to market or to carriers for transportation to market.
(b) Non-commercial hauling of firewood harvested on the farm.
(c) Hauling animals, hay, fertilizer, feed, livestock, poultry, agricultural supplies, farm workers or other supplies or farm products in connection with the registrant's farming operation.
(d) Hauling household rubbish or garbage from the farm to a disposal site.
(e) Hauling or towing implements of husbandry.
II. Notwithstanding the limitations set forth in paragraph I, a vehicle registered under this section may be used to transport animals and agricultural products to agricultural fairs and exhibits for exhibition purposes only.
III. A vehicle registered under this section shall not be used for the purpose of transporting goods for sale or hire, including the common or contract carriage of freight or merchandise, or for commuting to and from a place of employment, or for leisure activities.
IV. This section shall be construed as authorizing the holder of agricultural plates to operate the vehicle while it is empty so long as it is being used generally to accomplish the purposes allowed in this section, and to transport within such vehicle incidental personal property such as food, tools, and clothing.
V. To be eligible for the issuance of an agricultural vehicle registration, the applicant shall sign the following form which the treasurer of a city or such other official as the city government may designate or the town clerk shall provide. This form shall be provided to the applicant upon request without further evidence from the applicant that the plate shall be used for purposes of this section. I, the undersigned, fully understand the limitations concerning the use of trucks, tractor-trucks, or tractors registered under RSA 261:82, and hereby certify that my vehicle will be used only for agricultural and farming purposes and uses incidental thereto, within a 20 mile radius of the main entrance of the farm upon which the vehicle is to be driven.

also read Section 261:84, Depending on your zoning some town clerks are fussy about farm or ag plates. The Lancaster town clerk wouldn't let me register a tractor on my 38 acre farm (because I'm not a resident there yet) while in Hampton Falls the clerk would allow my to register a dump truck farm or ag on 2 acres because it's zoned farm/residential. I also register my 580 Case loader/backhoe as a farm tractor because it's not for hire.
I later found out NH has a non-resident registration program but also found my insurance wouldn't cover my tractor if registered so I never persued that. MikeD74T

Why not ask them how they did it then just do the same thing if possible / practical?

The operative portion of 261:84 is "to be used in connection with the operation of a farm or farms owned, operated, or occupied by the registrant." . Interpretation of what constitutes a farm is left up to the town government, and, in my town, truck farm plates are only for income-producing farms. Unless, of course, your family has lived in town for at least three generations.

Tractors are treated differently; there's an assumption that they are farm vehicles.

I live in Derry, wonder if I could reg my mini-truck as a farm truck for a acre lot and home. I am right behind a 45 acre working dairy operation. Most neighbors have horses and other animals on there property.

My grandfather always had a truck with ag plates on it and used t to go to the dump with. He got another truck (as backup to his car now) and was told by a friend they no longer do ag plates. Is this true or is it town by town? He is zoned rural in Alton.

Not to hijack but this seems to go with the subject...

In Hooksett, I went in for a tractor plate for my kubota, they made me put on Construction Equipment plate as they claimed anything with a backhoe on it is considered "Construction Equipment"..(they called the NH-DMV in front of me).....

I mentioned that the backhoe was only an attachment and it would not be on during the plow season (when I need a plate).....Their response after I showed them the invoice was, "Doesn't matter, you bought it new with the backhoe".....

If I could have shown them an invoice with just tractor/fel then they would have given me tractor plate......:confused2:
