There's a guy here locally who is advertizing a Coop Tractor for sale. Has anyone heard of these?

I went to look at it, but he wasn't home. I got a glance into his shed and saw a Farmall 400 (I think) and another tractor that looked something like an old AC WD. I don't know if that was it or not. It rings true in my mind that the Coop tractors were smaller, but I don't know where I got that from.

They were produced around 1940's and 50's and looked very similar to Cockshutt tractors.

Co-op's were spin-offs of Cockshutt, and much the same tractor as a Blackhawk. VERY good tractors in their day. Very desireable as collectors items now.

Yes, I have heard of them and seen a couple. I remember being told that they had to be picked up at the factory by the farmer. Not sure if that is true or if my memory is faulty.

Just like auto makers, there were a lot of tractor producers 50+ years ago. In the 30's through 50's there were a lot of companies building tractors in the 15-45ish hp range, 2300 to 6500lb range. The more popular, or well known tractors would be Allis chalmers, John Deere, Ford, International/Farmall, ect... Then there were less known (to the non farming masses) like David Brown, Cuckshutt, Mineapolis moline, Co-op, White, ect... The Co-op's were in the same size range as the popular Allis WC/WD, John Deere A, 50, 520, 530, Farmall M. They made more than one model, but I don't recall seeing a smaller size tractor, like a John deere H,M, Allis B, C, Farmall A, B size.

There is a local JD dealer that is advertising one they must have got on a trade. It says it is a 1949 E3 with 32 hp. They are asking $3000 for it. Until I saw that ad I had never heard of them either. If it is rare it might be collectible?

Coop made a 1 row tractor in the 50s' a Coop 20. It was made to compete with the John Deere M and the Farmal Super A and the Allis B. It could be ordered with the mid mount cultivators and could also have a 3PH. It was the same as the moline 20 and the Avery 20.Pretty good tractors, but hard to find any parts for now. HTH, later, Nat

For what it is worth, tractors like this aren't worth a lot in financial terms because so few people actually want them.

Coop tractors were sold by, you guessed it, the local Coop! This was back in the days when tractors like this were still replacing horses in the field in some cases.

I almost bought a 1938 Deering 10-20 which sold for $1575 and was in really good condition.
