About 25 years ago I bought Dad a commercial ECHO SRM 300e handlebar Brush Cutter...

It's been a real trooper each season.

A couple of years back the tank cracked... more like a split when I took a tumble.

ECHO has basically discontinued parts for non-CARB compliant equipment and no tanks were available in a North America Search.

Echo / Shindaiwa SRM-300 Fuel Tank 13101006720

Short of fabricating a new metal tank... any ideas if the poly tank is repairable?

Local Dealers are not allowed to modify or install non OEM emission related parts when I was looking for something I could adapt.

Never would have thought CARB would have such far reaching impacts

might try Seal All ( wally world ) and a bit of aluminum foil .... smear a bit of seal all on the tank around the split, let it dry a bit ... then cover the split with some heavy alum foil ... let it dry ... then smear more seal all over the top of the foil and extend out beyond it ... let dry and re assemble ....

costs a couple of bucks and can't hurt to try ....

Seal all is great holds up to gas really well. We used Seal All to stop welded seam leaks in metal motorcycle gas tanks and for leaky petcock connections.

I have used J.B WELD on several gas tanks and it works for me..

Loctite has a product that can do the job well. Another way to fix is with a heat gun. They're like a mega hair drier and melts the plastic together and don't have flames.

Like said, heat and melt hot glue sticks into the cracks.
Hot glue sticks are basically poly (PVC)same as the tank material.

Auto parts stores sell a a "fuel tank repair kit"

It contains epoxy, and a piece of fiberglass cloth.

I have used them on steel, and plastic tanks.

Follow the directions. They work every time.

I tried the fuel tank repair kit and so far so good...

Also looked up the receipt and I bought the Echo SRM-300 in 1982 and paid $374 for it which was especially a lot of money for me at the time.

Stopped in at my favorite mower shop looking for a Stilh FS250 and learned I'm a couple of years too late... the FS240 has replaced it and the shop was leery of recommending it... they said they had sold many hundreds of the old FS250 to the city, county and landscapers and it was their best seller...

Made it through the weed season with the epoxy tank repair still intact...

Appreciate the suggestion and it save me from have to fab something or buying a new brush cutter this year...

33 years old and the Echo Brush Cutter just kept humming along... 12 tanks to clean up the brush/grass... Fire Marshal Inspection starts May 15th... so just in time.

Inspections always started July 1 and then it moved to June 15th... this is the first time inspection starts May 15th!!!
