I'm thinking of buying a Husquvarna 390 XP is there anything in particular I should know about? I'm particularly curious about the a centrifugal air cleaning system. Is it a plus or a minus?

Good saw.

Never really researched the air cleaning on a husky. But I dont really think there is anything different or unique about it compared to other saws, just marketing hype.

I have worked on several husky's, XP's and "air-injection" what not.

All pro saws have a centrifugal fan on the flywheel. Serves a few purposes, 1. Keep saw cool. 2. Keep air moving up/across air filter and air filter cavity to keep it clear of debris and to supply enough air to run.

I could be wrong.....But I think its just marketing hype and not much different on operation than a Stihl 650/660, or any other bran 90cc saw.

I agree with that. Even my consumer-grade Husky 455 has that feature. "X-torq", I think they call it.

Some saws allow you to redirect some of the air flow a bit for cold weather vs. hot.

Thanks guys. The reason I asked the question is that I was lurking in a chainsaw milling group and came across an old thread where someone said the air filter on one of his saws loaded up much faster than on the other two. When I read up on the features of some of the larger saws I discovered the centrifugal pre cleaner and thought that might have been the difference. Both Husquvarna and Stihl advertise similar systems and you're right it does seem to redirect air from the fan.

I'll try to find where I read the messages and see if that sawyer is still around.

X-torq the 390 is not. Not even close.

390 is still the old school p+c. Not the newer x-torq stuff.

IMO if your thinking of getting one you better. They are all going to that X T and autotune it seems.

390 88cc and its called air injection.

Centrifugal air cleaning system removes larger dust and debris particles before reaching the air filter. This results in reduced air filter cleanings and improved engine life.

I own a 390XPG (heated grip) with a 32" bar. I use it for larger jobs. I did not research
the air cleaning system. Saw has good power. Not something I would want to run all day long.
